Please anyone help me! If I'm on 11.8 (with Luma 9.1), installing .cia games with FBI and using them for offline single player and Local Multiplayer, all that without a single WiFi connection set on the console, is it all safe to do? Should I worry about something? Note that I'm not interested on online-play or using eShop Clone.

Okay, then I prefer to update to 11.8 as I already have Luma 9.1 on 11.7. (I'll still wait a day or two before updating for any of you guys to advise me to not do that for any reason you think is worth knowing).

Then I'll wait here on 11.8 and Luma 9.1 for a new promising method to play without any worries. Only time will tell.

(Because as far as I know there's no requirement to have a WiFi connection configured to play Local Multiplayer, you just have to enable wireless communication on the console, right?)
[please tell me if this is correct]

Yeah you should be fine. Nintendo hasn't done a mass ban yet so....

I'm in trouble, too! I use the Homebrew Launcher via oothax and unfortunately I updated my 3DS because I thought the hax payload was
already updated. Then I saw the update was just two days ago. Will someone work on that or is it now impossible to use it?
Sadly, I'm only a beginner and don't know about the other methods.

I was also confused why Nintendo updated the 3DS again although it's clear that they want to send it to retirement.
Nintendo seems to be very fierce when it comes to hacking.

But will I be included in a mass ban for this? Can they also detect if .cias are not legit?
No way if you do not go online!

They probably released an update because of the major release WARIOWARE Gold. They may do another one when Luigi's Mansion comes out (the remake .

if you dont have cfw you dont have to worry to get banned and the 3ds is not retiering they plan to add games over 2019 and probably someone is going to fix this

I never play online so I guess I haven't to worry about a ban. I just use svdt to extract, modify and inject save files, that's all.
I only use it for cheating. I'm looking forward to a fix of this. The oothax save file seems to be already updated but I still need
the homebrew launcher executive file.

Just a last clarification: What means "going online"?

Going online just means playing Online-Multiplayer with a game? (.cia in this case)

If, for instance, I play a .cia game offline Single Player with Wireless Communication ON and my home WiFi set up in the console, will I be at risk of something? (Knowing that I turned off "showing friends what I play" on Friends, "automatic content downloads" and "send usage info" on SpotPass Settings).

if you play single player offline you dont need to worry no matter if Wireless Communication is on or the wifi
if you play online there is a slight change of getting banned but thats really rare you should be fine if you dont cheat online
the new update can only check piracy/titlekeys if a game is being installed in sleep mode (Freeshop) not while you play a game
Installing cias via FBI is fine

hope that explains

In that instance it's hard to tell. I'd say probably not, but I am not an expert on this. I wouldn't see why you would NEED wireless except for local multplayer.
In all honesty, this is mostly potentially bad for people who still download from places like free Shop. As far as I know cias won't be affected that much and neither will stuff you already have (?) Yeah, it would only be a possible concern if you illegitimately download stuff from Nintendo servers However, perhaps it would be good to retain caution.

You could get banned from playing online but even that could have probably happened even before the update and may never happen anyway. So that isn't a big deal .It's more about INSTALLING games.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
    +1
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
