The Pokemon Company makes official statement regarding Palworld

aaa.png

From the moment that Palworld was publically unveiled, the comparisons of the game to Pokemon have been rampant. Despite that, Palworld's development team, Pocketpair, has stated that they're not concerned with any negative legal action, as the game is not infringing upon Pokemon, nor other IP copyrights. Meanwhile, the former legal team lead of The Pokemon Company expressed surprise at Palworld, saying he was surprised, "it got that far" when the game was released.

Further adding fuel to the fire was a Twitter user by the name of Byofrog, who began directly comparing Palworld models to Pokemon models, showing similarities between the two. While all of these comments and reactions have been from the public, Nintendo themselves haven't made any statement, until tonight. The Pokemon Company put out a short press release, specifically about Palworld. The full comment is as follows:

We have received many inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024. We have not granted any permission for the use of Pokémon intellectual property or assets in that game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon. We will continue to cherish and nurture each and every Pokémon and its world, and work to bring the world together through Pokémon in the future.

For now, there doesn't appear to be any immediate action that The Pokemon Company will take, but only time will tell if any sort of investigation leads to legal action.

I saw enough comments in here regarding "mental patients". I guess if that can fly, I can also say that the only mental patients surrounding this are the mentally ill people defending and playing a game for retards. I don't care what the damn creatures look like. The game is fucking stupid.

That's all corporate speak for "Of course we know it exists and yes we looked into it the moment it came out. There's nothing actually infringing on our copyrighted IPs in there. Now stop bothering us."

They should “investigate” how to make a good game for a change if they’re so worried about the competition. Newsflash Nintendo - a Charmander isn’t all that special, it’s just a lizard with its ass on fire. Big whoop.

Anyway, game’s smashing, wish the devs all the best, they clearly love their own product.

"Investigate" all you want Nintendo, no reasonable judge is going to call anything in the game infringement. If they really thought there was a case there, they would've taken legal action when streamers started playing it several weeks before the release of early access. They're just angry about its success.

It's fun almost to the point of being addictive. Spent the better part of the last couple days breeding a flying mount Pal with +50% movement speed, and I'm beyond excited for how much potential there is in PvP modes.
Is it possible to get nimble + swift + runner? I think that would be 60 or 65%. We've gotten nimble runner on one of our breeds recently.

I'd really like to see the random enemy npcs with some real pal teams to do battle with.

This makes me think that what Chary said is true: TPC hired or planted a modder to make the pokemon mod for palword in order to have something more in order to sue them about copyright and similar designs

Suck it Nintendo/TPC/GF! Actually with Nintendo, they'd rather devote time & energy, and spend thousands (or more) of dollars building a legal case against these guys "ripping them off", than working on making the next Pokémon game good! 🤯

That would be a pretty risky gamble because if the modder takes the money and then comes clean with it they would get so many fucking book deals and similar shit they'd be swimming in cash pretty much instantly. There's also nothing either of the two companies could do against it as paying people to do illegal shit is illegal in itself, and it would also ostensibly create massive damage to their trademark protections and possibly even IP.

Nah, it's a UE5 game and Pokemon is the largest franchise on the planet. There's dozens of ready to import models of a bunch of pokemon assets already present thanks to furry porn and similar, that takes anyone with just a little background in animations or game making an afternoon to whip up a proof of concept to take a video with.

Marketing speak for "we will continue to half-ass Pokémon games, pushing them out way before they're ready with barely any of the content or features seen in previous releases, and neglecting a bunch of older and less-popular Pokémon".

So in other words, complete bullshit.
I think this has to do more with Nintendo than the Pokémon dev teem.

When it was found out they literally copy and pasted Pokemon models it was game over. They'll have to remove those.
The person who made this claim actually lied and even admitted it was a lie. They had actually modified the models themself because they want the game removed from the market

They are literally a narcissist who joined Twitter just to spread misinformation about this game for their own reasons.
And even doubled down their bullshit
IMG_2362.jpeg

I am also going to say that Pokémon isn’t free of sin either

Clearly inspired off Tiger from Monster Rancer

Those are some easy one and there are definitely more, like the Dragon Quest inspired Pokémon
FB_IMG_1705918326905.jpeg
Or just the fact that Pokémon wasn’t even the first Monster collecting game. Both SMT and Dragon Quest 5 came first

Seriously, Pokemon Company shouldn’t be wasting their time on the claims of a narcissist who just wanted attention. They aren’t going anywhere with this one because parody, inspired by, satire, and so on are protected under copyright laws and Palworld is very much different enough for those laws to apply. They should be spending their time investigating why both GameFreak and Nintendo lied about future support and improvements on the Pokémon Legends and S/V.
