Hacking thinking of getting a ps3 to hack

topic header says it all looking to spend $130 to $150 on a Phat or Slim ps3 and was looking for advice on where to look, i'm guessing my only real option is to check pawnshops and test it out and check the system info for the firmware version or possibly craigslist.
don't really trust ebay considering how iffy some of the refurbished consoles could be on there and not knowing the firmware version.
anyway other than that, what's the latest CFW and such and how is compatibility with newer games?

I wouldn't leave out any . Ebay, as long as there are plenty of pics and detailed information, I say go for it. Anything that looks shady ignore.
Also if you can't find a backwards compat fat, might as well get a slim. Fats are extremely old, lots of them break down/get bd drives refuse to read anymore etc.

what's the latest CFW

Latest CFW is 3.55
3.41 is optional but 3.55 is preferred especially if you're starting out.

Basically any game released from Jan/Feb 2011 - Now will NOT work.
Anything from Launch - January 2011 is guaranteed to work.

It's basically a waiting game. Scene is still looking for latest keys. Until then, any game released from early this year to now will never work.
