TX Announces SX OS v2.2 BETA with Docked USB Drive Support

It's only been a week since Team-Xecuter made the big announcement of SX OS v2.1 with their 'cheat engine'

SXOS22.jpg

And now they are back and on a roll with them adding 'Docked USB Drive Support' and many other nice improvements to their 'cheat engine' and a few bug fixes! :)
How do you do, dear SX OS users?

Today we are back once again with a much anticipated new feature as well as various improvements to existing functionality for SX OS. While this is still labelled as BETA we've had some good success with it internally, we're looking forward to your feedback.

Lets jump into the list of changes!
  • Docked USB drive support!
Yes. You read it right. You can now plug a USB mass storage device into your switch' dock and load XCI or install NSP content from there directly. No longer are you limited by the size of your microSD card when playing the switch from the comfort of your couch, but you can now enjoy TERABYTES of content by using external harddisks and such! The filesystem on the drive needs to be either FAT32 or exFAT, and the directories that are being scanned for content are equal to the ones you'd use on the microSD card.
  • Updates to the cheat system
    • More accurate progress indication during cheat search
People were reporting "freezes" during cheat searches, often times these were just due to impatience and a suboptimal UI from our end. The progress bars are more honest and update more frequently now!
    • Cheat search for exact value requires no initial dump anymore
For 'exact value' searches a big initial dump file on your microSD is not needed, and since this is often the way people start a cheat search we decided to streamline the cheat finder process a bit. You are now prompted with a question whether you want to start an exact value search or arbitrary value search, in case of the former the process will be much faster.
    • Automatically apply/disable cheats upon toggle
The interface for "applying" the cheats was a bit counterintuitive, you now no longer have to press the plus (+) button in order to apply cheats. They are automatically applied/disabled once you toggle them. Disabling cheats now properly works as well, so there's no need for having a dummy cheat any more to work around that limitation.
    • Ability to add cheats using the UI
Identifying memory locations for cheats using just the console is nice, but previously there was no way of adding an actual cheat-code for a location you found to the cheat code library. This has been addressed, and there is now an interface for doing this directly from our menu.
  • Show homebrew NSP icons in TX menu
Some homebrew NSP titles were not displaying their icons properly. This has been investigated and fixed.
  • Fix error 2345-0021 when in docked mode opening TX menu
People who play/cheat in docked mode will like this fix. The frequent crashes that happened when opening the TX menu in docked mode are now a thing of the past!
That's it folks. Enjoy this BETA and let us know what you think. We have more tricks up our sleeves, more rabbits in our tophats. And we only have one gear: FORWARD.

Yes, we know they steal code. They don't credit the person for it, it's a shit thing todo.
If you have any issues with it, please take it in a blog or some other thread, this isn't the place.

If any dev feel they stolen from you, please contact the mods here.

Thank you!

(TLDR; Stop whining about stolen code...)
You are stolen games from Nin too

I'm more concerned with the report of hard drives clicking while in sleep mode. Isn't that dangerous for the HDD? I mean, every HDD I had that started clicking eventually died pretty quickly soon after.

Can anyone else confirm the clicking hard drive when in sleep mode? (Just in case it's just that user's harddrive)

You cant delete nsp files once you install them via the installer tab
You can, I just installed a few updates from USB, after it was done there is no prompt like there used to be BUT it does say X= Delete at the bottom of the install screen. It works.
[UPDATE] On further inspection even though it said deleted, the file remains on the USB afterwards. Ohwell

It's not the same type of clicking, this clicking is simply the HDD not getting enough power till you undo sleep mode, it's perfectly safe. The other type of clicking is when the drive needle can read the hdd.

Man, this just gets better and better - the best £20 I've spent! I bet all these TX haters are starting to wish they had just paid for a licence now :-)....

I hope TX fix the bug in spilt game card 2 xci files (when using fat32) - where the icons don't display. That's my only gripe with sx os so far, but all in all it's freaking awesome.
This also has been fixed in the 2.2 beta

I can confirm that a regular USB flash drive + USB-C OTG works when directly connected to the switch. No need to the dock

Thank you for not reading any of this thread and being the 100th person to announce that. Your contribution to the community is valuable.

Someone remind me the difference between 2.0.1 and 2.1-2.2 again? Does 2.2 aside from cheat engine have all the features of 2.0.1 such as emunand etc?

What hardrives do you recommend? I'm thinking in a 500 GB o 1 tb.
A mechanical hardrive could be slower than solid state drive? I think mechanical drives always get damaged easily, so I think a sdd could be better, what are your suggestions?

I like the Samsung Evo 860 drives. I can verify that the 256gb version works perfect.

Why did you ask this twice? The answers you seek are on the SX website.

Seems to be a size limit my 8TB external isn't working. The highest HDD Ive seen confirmed working from others was a 3TB

Try reading the thread. It has been discussed ad nauseam all ready. 2TB is the limit because you have to use MBR to format the harddrives.

When I was testing yesterday I noticed this

I was testing with a Toshiba 2tb self powered usb 3.0 hdd in dock mode, put the console into sleep mode and noticed the light on the hdd was still on and the occasional click, I simply unplugged the drive

I will test with a Y cable later on today

I had this drive clicking happening to me, I swapped my normal usb cable for a y-cable and it's been fine since using both ports on the side of the dock. So it will run fine when the switch is running on a normal cable but looks like it needs a y-cable when in sleep mode or else it will click unless you use a powered hub or self powered drive of course.

Glad to see this feature added, but really, I'd like to see some more custom sysmodules, like Atmosphere's creport redirection to the SD card. Mainly things that would make CFW less identifiable to Nintendo. I only care about homebrew/Retroarch for the next while, so maybe it's good enough as it is for me?
