Ubisoft announces development of original 'Splinter Cell' remake

After an interminable wait, gamers can expect to reunite with Sam Fisher once more. Ubisoft has announced in a blog post yesterday that its Toronto branch has begun work on a full remake of the original Splinter Cell game. It will be rebuilt "from the ground up" with Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine, used to develop the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Ubisoft’s Star Wars game. This Snowdrop-developed Splinter Cell aims to deliver "new-generation visuals and gameplay" and "the dynamic lighting and shadows the series is known for".

For the announcement, Ubisoft News aired a new video on YouTube that includes insights from the original game's developers as well as from those working on the remake:

The Splinter Cell remake has only recently began development and as such has no release window nor information about the platforms it will launch on. You can head to the Ubisoft blog post in the source link below to read more about the interview with three developers on the project: Creative Director Chris Auty, Producer Matt West, and Technical Producer Peter Handrinos.

it wont be upscalled they said they are building it from the ground up, which means no assets from the original game will be used, probably a totaly diferent engine too, im guessing either new engine or blacklist engine, they already made a remaster of the trilogy on ps3, this one is a remake, they said it on the video.
They didn't do a very good job with that trilogy. Xbox (and beyond) is more or less the ideal platform to play it.

It's a shame because it was the one time PlayStation had a decent Splinter Cell collection and they messed up.

its not really fair to compare it because splinter cell was an xbox exclusive at first and then they decided to bring it to sony/nintendo obviously they made the game for xbox and had to down-port it for ps2 and gc got a ps2 port, but hey ps2 has some exclusive levels of their own.

Also the splinter cell on xbox is a different build from PC version, every version is different build except the gc/ps2 which are the same except for the exclusive levels ps2 has.

The ps3 hd trilogy uses Pc ports and not the xbox version that is why its diferent and obviously the xboxone x is upscalling the xbox version yet again unlike ps3 which is still using the pc version.

Doble agent is a very rushed port on ps3, it was ps3 early days and most devs still havent learn how to code for ps3 while xbox had released a lot sooner and again doble agent was madefor xbox360 and then ported to ps3 on a rush that is why it became so bad.

Blacklist imo is the only really comparison you can make becuase all xbox splinter cells use a different engine from ps2/gc ones.

Yikes, wasn't aware of it.

All that just to play the damn game, unbelievable. Ubisoft should fix/patch it themselves and then give it away as an apology for releasing a broken port from the beginning.

I thought Ubisoft had it all under control considering it's a beloved franchise of theirs.. nope.

You expect them to fix a 2004 PC port? You're better off playing on Xbox One honestly.
