Hello all. Same issue here.

The black screen can have multiple causes. When the recovery menu won't boot (no purple LED) it's most likely a IOSU brick, so it crashes before the USB driver loads. This is fixable with a NAND backup and hardmod only.

Would I have needed to hack/mod my wiiu in order to do this? I never modded my wiiu, and like previous poster, mine also does 2 disc drive start ups. I did try with a stopwatch, but didn't work.

Thank you! I went over it and will check to see if it's a Hynix, though my WiiU was a later version, since I didn't buy until the wind waker edition released. That said, I don't have experience soldering, so not sure how good I'd be...
