Hacking Updating N3DS B9S 1.0 to 1.2 & Luma3DS 7.1 to 8.1

Hi all.
I'm hoping to get help with updating B9S 1.0 to 1.2 and Luma3DS 7.1 to 8.1.
I am following the steps here: https://3ds.guide/updating-b9s
The problem is, I put SafeB9SInstaller.firm and GodMode9.firm into SD:/luma/payloads and held START while powering on to get the chainloader menu but it only goes straight to GodMode9. I also tried renaming the two firm files to use the older boot method where you held a certain key based on how you renamed it to no avail. I can not get SafeB9SInstaller to boot no matter what I try.

Since My N3DS can boot without a SD card inserted is it reading the payloads from somewhere else and THAT's where I have to put SafeB9SInstaller.firm?

Looking for any assistance anyone can offer.

As a side note, I'm on Firmware 11.3 SysNAND CFW.

It sounds like Luma3DS is loading off the CTRNAND, which means it's not loading payloads from the SD card. Remove boot.firm from the root of your SD card and replace it with this one from Luma3DS 7.1: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases/tag/v7.1

Using that boot.firm should allow it to read the payloads on your SD card. After you've updated B9S to 1.2, you'll need to replace boot.firm with Luma3DS 8.1: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases/tag/v8.1

Thanks Lacius. You were right on the money. I knew it wasn't loading from SD:/luma/payloads but it's been a few months since installed/updated a CFW 3DS and I forgot the relationship between boot.firm and the CTRNAND setup.
