Hey guys, I'm struggling with what I need to do here and would appreciate your help! I'm pretty savvy with Nintendo hacking, Wii and Wii U, but last night was the first time getting my toes wet with 3DS hacking. I basically followed this guide word-for-word:

https://3ds.guide/

I used a 2GB (will call this Card A) SD card to do all this. Thing is, I'd now like to use a bigger SD card with the 3DS, however simply taking the 2GB out and putting the 16GB (call this Card C) in, it doesn't like it.

My problem is a little bit deeper then just that though. Originally the 3DS had an 8GB (call this Card B) card in it with some games and data saved to it (all prior to hack).

What I want to achieve, in simple terms is merge the data etc. from both Card A and B cards on to Card C. So that Card C has both FBI, Luma3DS updater and Homebrew Launcher from Card A but also the games I'd bought through eShop which were on Card B.

Thanks for your help!

If you copy everything from Card A to Card B without deleting anything on Card B, you should accomplish your goal. If it asks you to merge folders or overwrite something on Card B, it should be okay to do it.

Ok I'll give that a try and see what happens. If all is good, I'm assuming that I can then simply transfer everything from Card B to Card C then to achieve the end goal? Only reason I didn't think it was as simple is that is because I originally tried creating a folder on my PC, copying stuff from both Card A and Card B to the folder, then transfered all that to Card C. It booted but the stuff that was on Card A was not appearing on the menu.

That didn't work. For whatever reason, I just end up with the stuff in the menu that I had prior to the hack. So my downloaded games are there etc. but the stuff that the hack process installed like FBI, LumaUpdater and Homebrew Launcher are gone.

If i forget about the games for a second, I can re-download those I guess. I'm still stuck on point one which is transferring whatever is required from Card A to Card C so that the end result is a mirror of Card A on Card C, just now I have 16GB instead of 2GB.

If combining your files and folders isn't working, then the easiest thing might be to manually reinstall all of your hacks onto Card B.

Just to confirm, did you create an emunand on any of the cards at some point?

Err not sure. Like I say, followed that linked guide. With reference, performed these steps from the guide on the 2GB SD card I used for the hack:

  1. Open Hourglass9 from arm9loaderhax by holding (Start) on boot
  2. Go to “SysNAND Backup/Restore”
  3. Go to “SysNAND Restore (keep a9lh)” and restore from NANDmin.bin
  4. Press (Start) to reboot

So I restored my NAND backup as part of the process.

Why not just format the card to fat32 on pc.

Pop it in 3ds and boot it up t make sure it works.

Turn off 3ds and remove card.

Copy the entire contents of original card into a folder on pc

Pop new card back into pc and copy the entire contents from original card, the one you copied into a folder, back to the new card.

I went from 2gb to 64gb doing exactly the above and it worked just fine. All my stuff was booted up just fine.

For whatever reason, it doesn't for me. Sure I can format Fat32 and stick it in. Luma configuration pops up, I set those options. Let the 3DS boot up. Turn it off, copy old SD card contents to the new one. Stick it back in the 3DS and the hack stuff like HBL is not there.

Think I'll have to do as suggested above and just reinstall the hack stuff.

What region is your is 3ds?

You may need to delete a particular folder after you copied old card to new.

After you have copied the contents of the old card to the new one, pop the card into the 3ds and power it on on. Once booted power it back off and do the following on the pc.

  1. On the new sd card go into the folder named "Nintendo 3DS”. Inside there will be folder with a huge string of letters and numbers, open that.
  2. In this folder will be two folders with long random names. One of these is the folder tied to your old card, the other is the one tied to your new card. Copy the contents (not the folder itself) of the old one (it’ll be the one with the largest filesize) into the new one – merge and overwrite if necessary. NOTE! Once you’ve confirmed everything is working, you can delete the old folder to make some space.
Pop the card back into the 3ds and it should work. Let me no how it goes :)

Thanks for your help. I gave it a shot but no good. Did manage to get to a point where I have HBL etc. on the new larger card. I've just re-downloaded the software from the eShop and be done with it lol. Might end up having lost some game progress but it's no great shakes.

- Try:

  1. Backup original card b
  2. copy hacked card a over card b contents and do what I said in the last post.
  3. Now copy everything back to card c contents, over the top of that data again, and do what I said in the previous post one last time just to be sure the file structure is correct. Progressively overwrite and merge files as you go.
I was thinking of only two cards when I wrote the previous post and didn't account for the original 8gb sd.
