Hacking [Video] How to Install .CIA and DevMenu on Your Nintendo 3DS (With Gateway Emunand)

I made a simple tutorial for those who don't know install the .CIAs

If you have 4.1 - 4.5 version of 3DS , you can install games directly to the home menu! (emunand)

DOWNLOAD LINKS IN VIDEO DESCRIPTION

Step 1 : Create Emunand partition with Gateway / POWER OFF 3DS / Plug out the SD CARD (Proceed to step 2. If you already have emunand)
AND YOU MUST UPDATE YOUR EMUNAND TO LATEST SYSTEM VERSION (current 9.4)


Step 2 : Format 4.5 SYSNAND From the Settings menu (IMPORTANT) Because you can't put installed games are into the folder. (Notice that all of your eShop game will be deleted)
!!!!!!!!!!!!!DON'T INSERT SD CARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This process creates a different management in 3DS SD card.

Step 3 : Download and Copy "BigBlueMenu.3ds" or "DevMenu.3ds" to GATEWAY 3DS(red) SD CARD NOT SYSTEM.

Step 4 : Copy BigBlueMenu.cia to 3DS SD CARD

Step 5 : Re-install Exploit with (Gateway Blue r4i Card)

Step 6 : Launch gateway mode from system settings

Step 7 : Launch "BigBlueMenu.3ds" or "DevMenu.3ds" with emunand mode

Step 8 : Install "BigBlueMenu.cia"

Step 9 : Now you have the necessary software to install a CIA files on the menu. You can install what you want.

Step 10 : ENJOY!

-> useless to format sysand. I have never formatted my sysnand, and cia installe work fine

It's not a useless step. It seperates the Emunand settings folder from the Sysnand settings folder on the SD card. This prevents issues that happen for some people when the folder is shared between the two different system versions.

I think formatting Emunand works just as well as formatting Sysnand, as per this post.

Well, they removed cearps's Flashcard Timewarp hack for some stupid reason. I might even report the mods post for locking it. If they decide to lock this, my only guess is the link to the copyrighted material.

The steps for formatting Sysnand, as I understand them, are these:

1. Backup SD Card
2. Insert SD Card, create Emunand
3. Remove SD Card, restore backup
4. Format Sysnand (SD Card not inserted!)
5. Insert SD Card while in Sysnand
6. Reinstall DS Profile Exploit

The way I understand things, formatting Emunand will also work:

1. Backup SD Card
2. Insert SD Card, create Emunand
3. Remove SD Card, restore backup
4. Format Emunand (SD Card not inserted!)
5. Insert SD Card while in Emunand

The only deciding factor between these two methods, that I know of, is that Sysnand might force you to update when you try to format. This isn't a problem in Emunand, as long as the Gateway team has assured us that Emunand works on the latest firmware.
Someone please let me know if I made any mistakes, I haven't actually done either of these processes. My Sysnand is on firmware 9.2.0.

the link you have under the youtube video for devmenu and bigblue says 4.5 cfw files.zip but i don't have cfw only gateway, am i still able to use that devmenu or do i need a different one? and is that devmenu the latest one or old?

why go through all that trouble? can't you just have devMenu.3ds on the red gateway card, launch that, then just install, say a theme pack .cia? or a .cia game?
