Video streaming services will no longer work on the Nintendo Wii by January 2019

It's been over a decade since the release of the Nintendo Wii, with two newer home consoles succeeding it in the 12 years since its debut. While the Wii's relevancy may have faded, a small population of users out there still keep their system hooked up, for the purpose of easily streaming on-demand TV and movies. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and Crunchyroll are still capable of streaming 480p video for those that managed to grab the respective applications prior to the closure of the Wii Shop Channel. Back in the day, there was a definite market thanks to the massive popularity of the Wii, and streaming companies commonly encouraged customers to use game consoles in order to watch content. Netflix even offered a disc by mail that would allow Wii systems to use the service. However, those days are coming to an end after eight years, with Netflix revealing that Nintendo will be suspending all video streaming services on the platform by January 31, 2019.

Wonder when Netflix on switch will be available? Or maybe some network hack (dns change?) to make Netflix work again on wii. I’m sure if won’t be long before Netflix again works on the wii. My brother uses it all the time and has a tight budget. Maybe I get him a roku box for Christmas.
hell eya, I have multiple roku device and we love them
I mainly use Plex on it, but we are considering moving to Alibox as well
What are those app?
In short :
Plex : You download video (i do with semi-private trackers), put them somewhere on your computer (I use an ext. hdd of 3TB) and you configure a plex server (Very noob friendly). Then, you can stream those video on multiple device (Roku, android, ios, wii u, ps3/4, xb360/o, more)
Alibox : It's just like regular TV, but it costs less
For exemple, I pay 65$/month for TV with videotron
With Alibox, it costs like 240$ for 15 months per tv

I think you forgot the /s. Video streaming was a much bigger factor for consoles last gen, but now you've got $20-$30 HDMI sticks that do the same thing. If anybody is buying $250+ video game consoles specifically to stream Netflix, they're doing life wrong.
Imagine taking a joke this seriously.

Plex was great when I had my galaxy tab 10.1. A customer told me about “Pluto”. I haven’t looked in to it, but he said it’s free tv. Streaming is the way to go.

I am amazed they lasted this long. I never used the Wii for online stuff anyway and even the cheapest modern streaming thing you can plug on your TV does video streaming better that the Wii does.

I saw this fairly recently at a friends house when we were waiting for him to roll something illicit, he pulled out the wii remote and started playing luke cage on netflix. "Why the hell do you have netflix on the wii when you have a ps4 right there..."

I never did get an answer from him...
