Hacking What R4 firmware do I use?

I've been out of the DS Rom game for a while. I purchased a R4 when they first came out; mines an original, but it's not got the springloaded SD slot.
I need to know what firmware etc I need to use.

I downloaded the Wood Firmware, which has the __rpg folder and the _DS_Menu.DAT file in it, but this doesn't work. If i use it in conjunction with _system_ folder and the _DS_MENU_ system file from the old offical R4 firmware, it works, but I don't get any details about the games (e.g I just see game icons, not the name of the game etc).

Can someone tell me what files and folders I need specifically, and where they need to be placed on my SD card?

Wood firmware is currently the best firmware to use.
Just place everything in the zip file in the root of your SD.

So if I downloaded the latest WoodR4 from here and just put those files onto the root of my SD card, it should work fine?
I'll give it another go and see.

Yes it should, just make sure you overwrite the old system files (if they exist)

If You have laters wood (1.24 or 1.25):
Check if there is language file
sd: \ __rpg \language \ English \ language.txt
also check ini file
sd: \ __rpg\ globalsettings.ini
in ini file should be (3rd from top):
langDirectory = English
