This video explains us about the Wii Shop Channel and the future RiiConnect24 plans to reactivate the Wii Shop Channel.

Bad News, the Wii Shop Channel closed forever yesterday and RiiConnect24 still does not put the Wii Shop Channel in its statistics of its page nor does it want to dedicate itself to reactivate it, because they will be dedicated to reactivate the Nintendo Channel and the Check Out Mii Channel, I doubt that RiiConnect24 will add the Wii Shop Channel to their statistics on their page or dedicate themselves to reactivating the Wii Shop Channel after reactivating the Nintendo Channel and the Check Out Mii Channel.

RiiConnect24 already said this on his twitter, in a medium.com post and here on GBATemp.

For now we can only install WiiWare, Virtual Console and Channels in .wad format with WAD Manager after the closure of the Wii Shop Channel.

Many of you miss the Wii Shop Channel and its beautiful music until RiiConnect24 is prepared to devote itself to reactivate the Wii Shop Channel, if you want to listen to the music of the Wii Shop Channel after its closure I put this video:

Listen to the music of the Wii Shop Channel, while reading the thread.

Will RiiConnect24 revive the Wii Shop Channel?

Comment or think on this thread.

As RiiConnect24 mentioned in their video,
There's a team (I'm a part of) that is working in speration from RiiConnect24 on a replacement service for the Wii Shop Channel called Open Shop Channel (Right Here)

Join our Discord at by6mR5N (Or link in RC24's Video Description) as all of us maintainers are yet to achieve a proper level here.

Question: Why did the Wii Shop Channel have to be closed?
Pretty good question. In our society money is often the keyword. Keeping the Wii Shop Channel functional would surely not have been expensive from a technical side (server). I would guess:

As long as the shop is online, they have to provide some support. If somebody has problems connecting their Wii to the router, or if adding funds made problems, or… whatever. Customer support costs money and considering no new software in the shop for YEARS, there are not many sales to be expected.

That is the problem with any form of obtaining paid content without physical media: At some point it becomes unavailable (in a legal way because of one-sided copyright laws).

What was that topic? It was a plan to replace the Wii Shop Channel with a homebrew downloading channel.

Question: Because there are no physical games in digital on the Wii Shop Channel like PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Network and PC?

Nope. Nintendo didn't do physical games in digital format until 2012, with 3DS and Wii U. And not every physical games was available on eShop.

Careful… You are comparing apples and oranges.
Wii Shop Channel ≠ online gaming → As you know from reading about Wimmfi, Nintendo WFC was already shut down in 2014.
Even if the Shop Channel offered download versions of otherwise physical available games (impossible due to technical limitations), this would have changed nothing on their decision to take the shop down.

About your initial post:

There is no (legal) possibility of reviving the shop to the previous state offering the same commercial games. Obtaining WiiWare and Virtual Console games for Wii in illegal ways will stay the only option. I can't think of any reason to implement an illegal infrastructure duplicating the Wii Shop Channel when simple downloads are already possible and much easier.

What's the point of "confirming" games you know will get released. Like Nintendo "confirming" a Zelda sequel. "We can't be sure Nintendo is working on a new Zelda game, or if a new Zelda game will ever be released, until they officially confirm it."

"There is literally no way to know if they will ever release a new Zelda game, it's wild speculation until they officially confirm it."
