Why is this game so hard to emulate? Was it coded poorly or something? I remember massive framerate drops in both 2d and 3d modes on the real console. It cant be pushing the 3ds for everything it got, because ironfall runs perfect, and that game pushed the 3ds as far as it can go.

Who cares? Emulators are not perfect. If you are wanting it to run properly. go buy a 3ds console and play the game on there.

I do own the game, but I am interested to how well the game was coded. I tried overclocking on new 3ds, and got no noticable performance boost. Interesting sidenote: when I was viewing the framebuffer for this game on citra, i noticed when you turn off 3d, the game applies antialiasing to some degree like most 3ds games, but what is strange is how they implemented it. Most 3ds games I saw took a double sized vertical resolution of the 3ds resolution, and downscale it back to the 3ds resolution vertically, creating vertical antialiasing. Luigis mansion dark moon takes a different approach, it renders both halfs of the larger sized framebuffer at native res, meaning it renders the lower half then wipes the framebuffer, then renders the upper half, then downscales it and combines both halfs for a full image. Why does it do this?

Also, I would like to mention this game has a uncapped framerate and can go to 120fps during loading. I had the ntrloader plugin for fps to find this, so maybe the emulator is running the game smoother than real consoles, achieving a 120fps, that the pc has to keep up with

Best place to ask would be in the Citra discord channel, as the main devs are there. Also, afaik there is an issue on github that describes this in detail, but I'm not able to find it yet.
