Saw the title, thought of this, went in to post it, realized I was half a minute too late.

In addition to that, when you're young, you're not "getting older" (except chronologically), you're growing. Every year you're getting bigger, stronger, faster, smarter, (hopefully), and you're being allowed to do more things, so that's what you're celebrating.

And after that you do it out of habit.
