Hey Guys,

So I am very new to the Wii U scene, and quite late to the party if I might add

I am currently trying to back up my own Wii U games I have on disc. I have successfully copied the content onto my SD, by using the disc2app homebrew software. However, I have gotten stuck, as I am trying to decrypt the images now, in order to be able to play them on Cemu.

I have tried a few things, but a little lost. Could anyone maybe help me, please?

Also on my travels, I have come across the term 'common key'? Could someone explain that to me, please? I know each disc has a key, but don't know what this 'common key' is.

Thanks in advance guys ^_^

The common key is the "shared secret" that exists on the Wii, the Wii U and the Nintendo DSi. On the Wii he was extracted using the Tweezer Attack. The key is known to all devices, but never used directly. Instead, all titles are encrypted with a random title key, which in turn is encrypted with the common key and stored in the ticket. If the common key is known, almost any content can be decrypted.

The Common Key is the key that is stored on every WiiU console. It's used to decrypt the encrypted titlekey. In turn, the decrypted titlekey is used to decrypt all the files. For digital titles, decryption is done at the time of install. For disc-based titles, decryption is done at the time of disc loading.

Now that you have used disc2app to dump the encrypted files from your disc, you need to decrypt and then unpack those files. If you are on Windows then just use Cdecrypt. If you are on a POSIX system then use something like this: https://github.com/ihaveamac/wiiu-things

Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.

I'm designing my own entertainment cabinet for my man cave, to store all my systems, then I'm also designing a power supply/HDMI switcher so I can switch to whichever system I want, and power it also. Already picked up the cabinet board, but tinkering with my drawings before start

But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
