Also, if you want to keep using the flashcart, you need to save its firmware data somewhere. With a DS lite you just keep the DS open and keep it in RAM.
In a 3DS, if you reboot, well, you're screwed.

Isn't there a firmware backup somewhere here on the temp so you can reflash it? Surely the firmware doesn't have anything flashcard specific in it...

This is all pretty insane, we can now hack a 3ds using a flash carts and pc. That's it. No Homebrew or powersaves needed, just boot up a .nds and profit!

so are you saying that it can be done with a 3ds then? or still having to use the nds

In theory yes, but we need some people to test it and verify first. Also I'm not all caught up on the whole ntrboot scene, so you may wanna ask someone to with a bit more knowledgeable to double check. Go link this thread in the official ntrboot thread. They would know about it.

Gonna try this. Just to clarify when do I take out the SD card? Also I leave the flash carts in the entire time of installing this, right?

if your doing it in a 3ds keep the flash card if your testing that... but if you are using the ds or ds light i think it can come out

its may be possible no one has tested it you will be the 1st but if it works then you will go down in history

What you should do is follow the guide (https://3ds.guide/flashing-ntrboot-(nds)) right up until "Eject your flashcart from the source NDS / NDSL" at which point you should turn off the 3ds and follow https://3ds.guide/installing-boot9strap-(ntrboot) as normal.

you can use a pice of string and some super glue on the micro sd card to be able to pull it out of the new 3ds xl when needed i think that would work really good.
