An Update: My Top 100 Food List

So, late last year, I had posted a list with what I have eaten before. I have the update now!

The Very Good Taste Omnivore's 100 List

Rules:

1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.
4) Optional extra: Post a comment at www.verygoodtaste.co.uk linking to your results.

1. Venison
2. Nettle tea (Had some. Nothing special...it's weird to think that a plant with such high defenses (little glass like hairs filled with acid) tastes good to humans.)
3. Heuvos ranchos
4. Steak tartare
5. Crocodile
6. Black pudding
7. Cheese fondue
8. Carp
9. Borscht
10. Baba ghanoush
11. Calamari
12. Pho - yum!
13. PB&J sandwich - a classic.
14. Aloo gobi
15. Hot dog from a street cart - yummy. Add ketchup and fake bacon bits, and you have a winner!
16. Epoisses
17. Black truffle – gah. Expensive. I understand that fancy restaurants like the French Laundry and others use this, but...it's just a fungus. Plus, there are different types of truffle out there, and unscrupulous people make more money selling the cheaper kind as the “real thing”.
18. Fruit wine made from something other than grapes - yup, blueberry wine...homemade.
19. Steamed pork buns
20. Pistachio ice cream
21. Heirloom tomatoes
22. Fresh wild berries - hiking in Algonquin park, and eating raspberries. I got a bug in the center of one of mine - bitter!
23. Foie gras - small square, really rich and oishi.
24. Rice and beans
25. Brawn, or head cheese - yuck. Something about the textures and tastes. YUCK.
26. Raw Scotch Bonnet pepper - NO. I do not want my tongue to melt off.
27. Dulce de leche
28. Oysters
29. Baklava
30. Bagna cauda
31. Wasabi peas
32. Clam chowder in a sourdough bowl – had. Improves the bread too! The sourdough was naturally fermented...yum!
33. Salted lassi – I love me some yogurt drinks, but I refuse to drink salted yogurt. That is all.
34. Sauerkraut - yum, but weird food.
35. Root beer float
36. Cognac with a fat cigar – had both, but not at the same time. I love me some Romeo y Julieta cubans...
37. Clotted cream tea
38. Vodka jelly/Jell-O - yum, but ow! (I had way too many of these one night.
39. Gumbo
40. Oxtail - yummy, if a cheap meal.
41. Curried goat
42. Whole insects - crickets. Crunchy with a mealy inside.
43. Phaal
44. Goat’s milk
45. Malt whisky from a bottle worth £60/$120 or more
46. Fugu
47. Chicken tikka masala
48. Eel - one of my favourites.
49. Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnut - yum...although I like the chocolate kind a lot more.
50. Sea urchin
51. Prickly pear
52. Umeboshi
53. Abalone - a staple of Chinese weddings. Chewy.
54. Paneer
55. McDonald’s Big Mac Meal - way too much food, but really good.
56. Spaetzle
57. Dirty gin martini - definately good, and I like 'em very dirty.
58. Beer above 8% ABV
59. Poutine - very good
60. Carob chips – ugh. I understand that this is a vegan alternative to chocolate, but...give me my animal fat. (I would probably substitute cocoa nibs for these – those are crunchy, and very dark chocolate tasting.)
61. S’mores - yum!
62. Sweetbreads
63. Kaolin
64. Currywurst
65. Durian - imagine the texture and sweetness of custard, with a hint of onion. It is very surreal.
66. Frogs’ legs - yum! I've had fresh ones (yay for wet markets in Hong Kong), and the frozen ones do not compare!
67. Beignets, churros, elephant ears or funnel cake - greasy sweets, but I usually go for donuts at a fairground
68. Haggis
69. Fried plantain - YUM!
70. Chitterlings, or andouillette
71. Gazpacho - so not a fan of cold soup.
72. Caviar and blini
73. Louche absinthe - crazy stuff. I have a bottle of it, and it's strong stuff, and pretty much deserves it's reputation
74. Gjetost, or brunost
75. Roadkill
76. Baijiu
77. Hostess Fruit Pie
78. Snail
79. Lapsang souchong
80. Bellini
81. Tom yum
82. Eggs Benedict
83. Pocky - not my favourite thing.
84. Tasting menu at a three-Michelin-star restaurant
85. Kobe beef
86. Hare - landlord went on a hunting trip, shot it to death
87. Goulash
88. Flowers - zucchini flowers, injected with meat/cheese mixture, battered and deep fried. Heaven!
89. Horse
90. Criollo chocolate
91. Spam - love it.
92. Soft shell crab - love it, one of my favourite sushi places has a place that does hand rolls with this in it!
93. Rose harissa
94. Catfish - mmmm...yum!
95. Mole poblano
96. Bagel and lox
97. Lobster Thermidor
98. Polenta - texture issues, man. Even the thought of the fried stuff is awful.
99. Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee
100. Snake – want to try it. Especially at one of those “head to tail” restaurants in Hong Kong and China...

Score: 51 + 5 = 56 out of 100. Not bad...!
