First time I'm truly disappointed in Nintendo

My 3DS prior to Christmas of 2011 was working just fine, but after that, my outer cameras stopped working correctly. The left one would either be a lot darker than the right (when in configuring the cameras in Settings), freeze and/or show corruption (in the Camera app), or both would show nothing (in Games). I waited on the repairs because there wasn't any problems with anything else, but now my warranty + extension is running out.

So, I sent in my 3DS for repairs less than a week ago. I checked the status every day, with it changing from "have not received it", to "received and in process of repairing", to finally "shipped out". I get it back today (very early in the morning), and check the documentation that came with it. What I see checked are "We have verified your problem and have repaired or replaced the defective component." and "Your user information, which includes game save data, system settings, etc., has been loaded into your repaired/replaced system....". I was pretty happy to get it so soon. I open and boot it up, loaded my SD card, and checked the system. My friend list, downloaded games, etc. all seemed to be intact, because not having them would have been a real problem. Then I go and check my cameras......

This is when my happy mood turned quite sour. The exact same problems I had prior to sending in my 3DS for repairs were still there. The fact that they said it was repaired is not sitting well with me. Did they simply send it back saying it was repaired without touching it? Did they tinker with it, but did not test to see if it was indeed working afterwards? I'm not one to call up a person/company, and yell into the phone when I'm dissatisfied with the service provided, but this is just unacceptable. I'll probably email them about the situation, and with any luck, they'll do something about it (that will result in me getting a fully functional 3DS again). This time, should I be told to send in my 3DS for repairs yet again, I used the Camera app and took some snapshots of what it shows, which at least worked part of the time in its broken state.

Here's a little amusement for those wonder just what problem I'm having....

Ouch! :( I had to send my 3DS into repair because of problems with StreetPass, but they fixed it. They had to replace the serial number though, and I hadn't joined Club Nintendo yet. When I did, it took me a good three hours for them to fix it. Plus I had to put in every game I downloaded. But your problem is way worse.

I think that's very shoddy service. (The only time I had contact with Nintendo's repair service was about my ds lite - and they were good enough to replace the shoulder buttons.)

I'm a techie, and when I repair stuff, I make sure it works before handing it back to the customer!

Eh, well that's odd. Their repair service worked great for me when I sent in my DS Lite, DSi and now 3DS.

Demand compensation (eShop points!) for the damages caused to your mental well-being because Nintendo gave you false hope of a repaired 3DS!

What the freak, Nintendo?

How long warranty does this device have left?

I think you should send over this image and demand for compensation.

Yikes that is messy. I'd call them, and see if you can email them the image somehow. Or, even better, take a photo, save it to the internal memory, THEN send it back in. And request that they give you something free as the problem wasn't fixed the first time.

Well... if you wanted to make sure you should have written down your serial nr. prior sending to them and then compare with what you get back.

There is a (small) chance they sent you a new unit with the same problem (I guess).

I don't use my 3DS's Camera that much anyways...

Nah, it was the same unit. Same serial #, and same markings on the screen protector on the top screen from the bottom screen edging.
