What genres are you into? I have awesome taste in games (as Guild will attest to) so I'll recommend you some good shit.

The Infamous games are a good investment (if you can, get the collection, it's one of the best deals on the system). MGS4 is a great game as well, to this day it's my favorite PS3 title.

Infamous, little big planet, you know what. Just get 3months of playstation plus and download the free games (infamous 2,little big planet 2, just cause 2 and more, all great games)

I'm honestly open to anything except survival horrors because I'm a huge pussy.

Valkyria Chronicles - The PS3's best game by a large margin.
Demon's Souls - Just plain awesome. If you've ever played Dark Souls, it's more of the same, except it uses the superior mana system for spells.
Tales of Graces F - Second favorite PS3 game, definitely.
Eternal Sonata - better than the 360 version and just a great and unique game in general.

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head. Nothing exclusive anyway. A lot more if you don't have a 360 for superior versions of games i'd list.

While it may seem dated compared to the changes in the series today, the first one was good for its time and is a must play if you care about the story/world-building. Other wise, skip it and start with II.
(The jump from I to II does make II seem even more awesome-er though).

I'd skip Tales of Graces F. Meh story, meh graphics, meh voice acting... I'd wait for Tales of Xilia instead.

One that hasn't been mentioned is Heavy Rain. It's more of an interactive movie/giant QTE than a game but if you like a good drama and characters, you have to play it. Good graphics too. I'd rent it tho- you can easily beat it in a week.

Deus Ex: HR isn't bad either if you like sci-fi and shooting things.

It isn't worth playing the first one. Repetitive dialogue (Filthy beggar, that shall cost you your life!) and gameplay. It's horribly boring too.

If you really want to know the story, IGN did a recap.

Honestly, the only reason why it'd be worth playing the first one is to just dick around in Jerusalem, just to see how it was like and what not.

The game is cheap, so you could just quickly whip through it if you really want to find out the story, though the story kinda gets retold in the later games anyways. Honestly, they should have done Altair more justice. I would love to see another game with him but not as fucking boring as the PSP or AC1 games.

@hyro: I strongly recommend getting PlayStation Plus. It's actually worth it unlike Xbox Live. PS Plus simply destroys everything that Xbox Live has to offer. Especially with the free games every month. With it, there really is no point in having to buy games at all lol. But here is a list of the games I've bought:

The first Asscreed is pretty bad, storywise I played II fine before I played the first game. A lot of it is covered in Revelations anyway.

The only reason why you would want to play through the first one is because of the ending. I mean looking at all the clues Subject 17 left behind. But then it kinda gets fucked up because pretty much none of it came true. Revelations was kind of the black sheep of the franchise. I would say the first one is, but that's because it was the first game and it kinda paved the way for the others.

Revelations pretty much did shit all, and was a very boring game. Even the ending wasn't that big of a shock.

@ShadowSolier: I'll see about getting Playstation Plus. It seems to be to helpful in regards to acquiring older PS3 titles. Especially if they are free.
