God of War sucks

Okay, before we go on, that's just the title. It doesn't suck, it just doesn't deserve all the praise that it gets.

I will admit that it's a beautiful game to look at (no matter what one you're playing), but the fights, voice acting and overall gameplay of the series is terrible.

Why does Kratos always have to shout every word? Even the characters in Gears who are more manly then Kratos is still talks in a normal tone.

The fighting is very repetitive, it doesn't add or do anything for the game. It's just a simple button masher with lots of lighting on the blades to make it look pretty. The series reminds me of Devil May Cry so much, but Devil May Cry actually does everything right.

So tell me, why does this mediocre series get so much attention and love? The only thing I can think of is that it was made by Jaffe and people just want to kiss his ass.

I don't like the game, long time ago, I didn't know about the nudity, got in trouble lol...

I played one of 'em once at a friend's house. They couldn't beat a boss so I asked to try, I climbed on a wall and hit it with some magic spell over and over until it died. First time playing the game too. I literally just sat there and kept spamming the spell.

Why does he shout?
Because his life was torn to shreds, and nothing can seem to bring him happiness and closure. He walks an endless path of torment, as the gods continue to make his life a living hell, never accepting the terror they have brought upon themselves. In short, he's fucking angry at everything. He has no reason to remain calm when faced with everything he hates no matter where he turns.

Also: does manly = the most buff to you? Because otherwise, in both GoW and Gears, the characters are pretty efficient at tearing shit into a bloody pile of disgusting.

The fighting?
This is actually dependent; you can let it be a button masher, or you can put some effort into utilizing the combo system. Even then, the bosses are always more than a bit of fun. Having played God of War 1, 2, and the two PSP titles, I can safely say that I never let myself become bored with the combat. Really, it's no more button mashy than the average action-RPG. I've never played DMC, but if you're comparing it, the chances are, you simply favor DMC and can't bring yourself to appreciate a game that plays in a similar fashion.

Essentially, you pick it apart out of misunderstanding and favor in regard to another series. Granted, God of War isn't absolutely incredible, but it is a great series of games with a reasonable level of difficulty, as well as mechanics that have actually worked reasonably well since the first game.

Except even when someone is trying to help Kratos, he's still shouting. I'm sorry but it's really annoying.

And yeah, I do the different combos, but it doesn't change the fact that the fighting in the game is still pretty bad compared to DMC.

I really don't think the series deserves this many titles. It's an average series that hides behind a curtain to make it look like it's amazing.

It's not really meant to be fancy or challenging. It's just supposed to be a sloppy hack and slash. That doesn't mean it's bad. It's like you don't always want an expensive steak, sometimes you just want some cheap pizza. It's a guilty pleasure, an indulgence. It's not meant to be all that deep, it's just something that gets your blood pumping and get the stress out.

Yes, DMC kicks it off of the map!

GoW sucks. Every game like it kicks its ass. Like Dante's Inferno. It's like a carbon copy of it, except you're going through HELL playing a character who starts off the game by killing like 300 knights, kicking deaths ass, stealing his scythe and then fuckin' murdering him with it, and then without hesitation he jumps into hell to save his womans soul.
I'm sorry but Kratos can fuck right off if he thinks he can top such a manly intro.

DMC is in a league of its own.

Bayonetta kicks its ass.

Ninja Gaiden kicks its ass.

Hell, Ninja Blade kicks its ass.

Regarding Kratos' shouting - he's a former soldier. Probably used to it because he needs to be heard over the noise and chaos of the battlefield. Like how people get used to a certain level of noise, and then try to talk over it.

I don't like the fighting style in the GoW games, but I generally am from the RPG camp. Select an attack to do some damage. It's just the quicktime events that make me spew swear words at the screen.

I do admit it's a beautiful game to look at. I was watching someone play through the original and the sheer amount of stuff is fun.

It's like the ultimate fusion between a game and a movie. (Well, maybe an old school beat 'em up.)

imo Kratos never shouted in Mortal Kombat... also i never did care about god of war...

I have to agree with this, God of War is nothing to special. I remember enjoying the first one quite a bit but after that I could stand to keep going.
