Dollar store milk

While at the local dollar store to pick up popcicles for work, I spotted something... strange. On the shelf, not refrigerated or anything I saw columns of 1 quart boxes of milk. Once noticing the expiration date was 8 months off, I couldn't help but quench my curiosity. Bought a couple to try out. Put one in the fridge when I got home from work and hours later, tried it out.

It's surprisingly not bad. I thought it was going to be some poor quality milk or something. I thought I was going to spit it up and throw it away like so many other foods I sometimes grab from the dollar store. I wonder if I should send my second box to Ashens...

In any case, this is something I might donate to work. I'll bring it up with my bosses... thursday... I don't feel so well anymore...

To be fair... I haven't had milk in a while and I think I might be a little lactose intolerant. And I drank the whole box...

Antibiotics in that shit will probably obliterate your immune system, hormones in that shit will probably make you grow tits (or a huge dick so I'd give it a shot.)

It's probably just replacement. Kind of like the same stuff we use for the cows at work, where it's a powder and has all the nutrients and shit, and you just add water. It smells really good too.

It's probably UHT-treated milk (it's usually called "long-lasting milk" or something to that effect). It's been boiled at a high temperature (much higher than regular pasteurization), that kills off the germs (and half the nutrients), so it can keep longer and doesn't require refrigeration. It's not as good as fresh milk, but it's not bad.

It is though. It's terrible.
Regarding Guild's comment about the grey (gray) market they recently had a programme over here exposing the practices of pound shops (which I presume are exactly the same thing but British) and they found high end cosmetics that had been discontinued for 9 years on sale

I love the dollar store. People who need items can afford it, instead of paying fifteen bucks for a simple tool.

Also - yeah, I occassionally buy food from the dollar store - just canned stuff like tuna. :D

I buy all my junk food and drinks from dollar stores. Those things tend to be cheaper there then at a grocery store.

Find a better brand :P

Yup, says right on the box UHT. Also claims it's "naturally produced without artificial hormones*" but I can't find the foot note to that *...

Unrelated note, but the popcicles still haven't become frozen...

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
