Nintendo won the battle vs pirates - discuss

The new 3ds hacking methods are far too complicated and risky for online activity etc

I mean, the average joe coming to this forum with a new 3ds and wanting to run pirated games has to read about a hundred pages just to understand the correct procedures, limitations and risks.

Nintendo did well, they won.

How is Nintendo gonna block sky3ds though?

They already did it with FE:iF.

Playing online is literally as easy as purchasing a 5 dollar bargain bin game and reading one thread.... Just saying

It's even easier when people give away unique keys from games they don't play LOL

Hey peeps chill, just trying to get a new 3ds working for a 9-year old - it is not so simple as it was for her DS. The rumours of online IP bans is particularly worrying. And by "nintendo pulling the plug" I was thinking that they will, very soon, find a way to hardware detect the Sky3DS making the cartridge useless for online activity (ie, you can't update your system firmware any more)

Considering all the hassle, and the fact she really only wanted 3 games (Pokemon Y, Super Mario Land, Super Smash Bros), I bought the cartridges

Why didn't she want Pokemon Y? Pokemon X is better.

Oh, and as a reply to your post, I don't think that Nintendo will detect that by hardware because they would have to release newer models

Edited: Answering question and changing X to Y.

I think Nintendo do know how to kill Sky3ds, but they are waiting for the right time, they want Sky3ds to be bigger than the much harder to kill Gateway before they kill it - they have calculated that if they enable Sky3DS to grow and then kill it - it will have a huge impact on the community.

How did you know? Do you work for Nintendo or you're just guessing?

How old are you? DO you know what propaganda is?

With all consoles, music, movie etc piracy is nothing.

If i sell say 100 million consoles and a few thousand attempt piracy, where is the loss of incentive for a publisher. Then consider contractual agreements for supply etc. Things will sell others won't, it has 0 to do with piracy.

Open your mouth after doing research or put a ' i think' 'i believe' in front of your spiel. You have been had and don't take my word for it, do some research so your opinions are atleast factually informed.

Tricking many to believe and take a stance, does not make it in any way real or factual, regardless the blind support many show.

Support a community that supports you, not fat cat money spinners who would sell out their mother for profit.

Corporate sheep are like a turkey voting for Christmas blinded to the fact they are being themselves eaten for dinner.

What a load of nonsense, Smealum is against releasing a piracy tool to the masses. Just like KARL, but has no issue using the said tool and using pirated material in their own venture for their own purpose.

Any stance is fair in one's own work and release's i guess, but call a spade a spade with transperancy. They all use pirated material in their working environment, licensed game rips included.

In the easiest noob friendly self booting cfw less than 1% will use it, they know that more than you..... It is all about FEAR, EGO and MONETARY INCENTIVE.

What companies don't understand is that certain customers WILL NOT buy the games regardless of if piracy exists. A good portion of the pirates come from third world countries that had to make sacrifice just to pony up the money just for the console let alone spending 100$USD a game due to taxes on a 10,000$USD income. There is a higher pecentage of homosexuals in the worlds population than game pirates, game pirates are very rare to find and even amongst gaming circles in real life, most don't even know that you can get games without paying. The average American thinks its alot easier to pay 30$ regardless of their income, than to sit through tutorials attempting to understand something that isn't really common knowledge. Now I am not saying anyone that uses CFW is smart, but at the very least they have the passion and the patience to get CFW working on their consoles. Game developers do not lose money because most of the people that pirate had zero intentions of buying the game to begin with. It would be funny to figure out how many extra WIIs sold due to USBloaders and the homebrew channel, I think nintendo must know deep down. In my opinion for instance the WII u might never see a hack because the platform is dying and we are already talking about the nintendo NX. All in all I disagree that piracy is bad for game developers since most pirates wouldn't have bought the game. PLus quite frankly 50$ for shovelware would infuriate me from playing videogames for the rest of my life.

Guys... Why so butthurt? Nintendo didn't win anything, we all know this.

Hell... They don't even care that much about piracy and Miyamoto has said this on multiple occasions. Ofc they don't want to be another Dreamcast but it doesn't mean that there is no backups on it...

The dreamcast died due to the PS2. It broke numerous hardware, software and accessory sales records upon release and basically right up to the PS2's release. Piracy didn't do anything for the Dreamcast but get people to talk about it. The PS2 being released is what killed sales. All sales charts prove this, easily. NO ONE thought they'd die as quickly as they did and that wasn't even considering that Sony would royally screw up the PS2's launch and subsequent months of shovelware only titles and still manage to throttle the competition.

Just getting an illiterate person to understand what firmware, NAND and emuNAND are is a pain in the ass...

Sure, sky3DS just works. But few people knows it exists or what it is.

Bottom line is, the number of people who pirate on 3DS is very low. Several people I know who had a DS flashcard don't want to bother with 3DS pirating and updated their 3DSs. In this sense, Nintendo won.

Yep, pushing one button on a SKY3DS is asking way too much for a 9 Year-Old.
She's better off working on solving Differential Equation complex roots (

)

It's almost as hard as how to use that overly complicated "Ignore" function here.
Instead of just pushing one button like the SKY3D, I have to click the user's icon AND press Ignore.
There is no way in the world that a 9-Year Old could even think of doing it.

In fact, if they make it much more complex I'll have to write a Wiki on how to do it...

HOld the fuck up, you started this thread so you could find out how ot hack a n3ds? Stop tryin to make things hard and just get the sky3ds.

I agree totally. I loved my Acekard2i, and was gutted when they stopped updating the fw. But, I just kept my 3ds on the required firmware and all was good... until I bought Project X Zone and it auto updated my 3ds fw
As this was before any hacks for the 3ds had surfaced, I just sucked it up, used my Acekard on my two original DS's, and enjoyed access to the eshop on my 3ds again.
Unfortunately, my love of the eshop kept me updating my 3ds - as such, I forced myself out of the GW option before I even realised how far the 3ds scene had progressed.
Then Sky3ds came along and provided an adequate solution for people like me.

So, yes, I pirate games (always have - since the days of duping cassette tapes for my Spectrum back in the 80's), but I still buy a lot of software - both physically and digitally... just not everything I want to play ;)

It'll be a lot easier when the community decide on the best CFW.
so what nintendo should do if it wants to beat piracy they should flood the scene with 1000 CFW's all with different requirements, setup processes, pro's and cons to fragment the scene to the point where the average joe is so confused their brain dies and they just buy their games :P
