"Coming Out Day"

so apparently today is "National Coming Out Day". and, well, I think you know where this is going by now. (tl;dr i'm gay, figured that out yet?)

I've never really felt the need to talk about this about me unless someone had to ask or it became the topic of discussion, honestly because I didn't want it to seem like I was special because of it. I liked to focus on other things most of the time, stupid things like hacking a console. am I being too paranoid?

but now we are on a special day dedicated to this, so I thought I'd make a post about it, "coming out" you might say.

how is your day going?

I saw all this and coming out around here just means are you going out this evening.

To that end a perfect valid UK English sentence that probably sounds odd to USian ears, one that could have happened in any number of phone calls

Alright* mate, are you coming out this evening? I am but I have not had a fag for what feels like ages and I am gasping so I just need to pop to the shops and pick some up first.

*speaking to some Americans it sounds odd to them for everybody to ask if someone is injured all the time/as a mode of greeting.

@FAST6191 I followed that perfectly well. "Hey man, you hitting the town tonight? I'm gonna be, but I need to stop and pick up a pack of smokes first, I'm jonsing."

Tbh with you all I have this problem with members telling there deep personal issues in a blog. I had a very personal issue back a week before Christmas, last year when my mum died I felt the need to make a blog on GBATemp because my emotions were so affected so I did and maybe out of 20 odd messages most of them were negative comments like "this is not the place to discuss your family bereavements" or "don't expect any sympathy here" or "keep your comments to yourself" in fact they were so bad maybe only about 5 comments were any good support to me at the time, it even went so bad I think one member took to the EOF to make a silly stupid remark about his hamster dying or something like that. I had the blog took down by Cyan asap because it hurt so much at the time and ever since then I have had this issue with personal made blogs, its not the op's fault I agree but my comments just show how much it can hurt someone when its quite personal to them like my mum dying at the time was to me.

W
that's not an excuse to make harsh remarks against others... its not like satan posseses you

@Reecey You have my sympathies. But you have to remember as well that communities change over time. It seems now that those kinds of things are more acceptable here. The other thing to remember is that you will almost always have caustic comments on the internet at some point. But it shows just how much those who posted those sorts of things on your blog have bad taste.

@Reecey Saying that being gay is a "deep personal issue" is like saying that being tall is a deep personal issue. You're the one who has a problem with it. @ihaveamac was not asking for your support or sympathy, he was just making a post on his personal blog about it in the spirit of it being National Coming Out Day. I'm truly sorry to hear that about your mom, and it sucks that people make negative comments like that on the internet. I hope the irony isn't lost on you though.
