Transsexual cat

So I've made a transsexual out of me cat.
Because cisgender scum like you should be annihilated >:C
Jokes aside.
Lenin really is a "t******".

Anyway, I won't go into to much detail.
It all happened over a year ago when Lenin got bladder stones.
The cat didn't showed any signs of him having it until the very last moment (white crusty layer on the pee spot where he peed on me bed)
He did pee on me bed before once but I blamed me other cat for it cause she had a habit of peeing in corners outside of the litterbox.
The first incident was just normal pee.
Anyway, after bringing the cat to the vet and learning he had bladder stones, we began flushing him out.
All went well and Lenin got medication.

After the medication stopped, the problem returned.
This time, the vet flushed Lenin again and had a catheter inserted to help him pee properly.
Again, medication and this time a special diet.

Everything went well (ofcourse it went well, cat hates vets and doesn't show signs cause it's a stupid cat) during it but somehow, he started to dribble pee from time to time.
I've had him have urinary tests to check if he still had struvite crystals in his urine but every time there where only trace amounts.
Vet told me that due to the first time he ever had bladder stones, the possibility existed that Lenin's bladder was damaged.
Something I already figured out but you know how medical staff is.
Vet eventually came up with 2 solutions.
Medication + diet or a penile surgery, to which I got more info from him.
Vet told me that they could manage it with the diet and kinda wrote the penile surgery off as a last resort.

Anyway, Lenin has been given a special diet to lower the amounts of magnesium and phosphates in his urine to reduce the chances of crystallization.
Together with medication, on recommendation of said vet.
This initially went well, except for the pee dribbling problem and rare growling when peeing when he was off his medication.

Fast forward 8 months, after another urinary test revealed that Lenin still had a bladder infection, I was given some anti biotics for the cat (which was an absolute fucking nightmare to administer to him) that was supposed to clear up the problem.
Not 4 days after he finished the anti biotics, Lenin started bleeding when he took a piss.
That moment me mum rushed him to the vet (I was at me brother for the week) and had him taken in.
To which point me mum called me and said that Lenin was supposed to get a penile surgery.
I, obviously irritated at the fact that the vet told me they could manage it with medication and diet went home and picked Lenin up the following morning to bring him to the veterinary surgeon.
After an immediate surgery that same morning, I got a call saying the surgery was a success.
Lenin's penis was removed and his urethra was sewed to the outside skin, essentially, making him a female cat without a vagina.
Lenin was to be kept there for 48 hours for observation.
Understandable cause it's not just some surgery that was performed.

Once I picked him up the chief vet there told me that Lenin was doing fine, eating and drinking, properly peeing and obviously a lot of meowing cause he missed his butler.
Turns out that Lenin's urethra in his penis was incredibly narrow, a tiny amount of crystals was enough to block it.

The surgery took place on Sept 29th.
It is now Oct 5th.
Ever since it happened, Lenin has undergone a transformation from agitated cat to a complete lazy cunt
Lenin is finally the old self again.
I, worried and frustrated, "scammed" out of ~2 grand worth of tests, meds and vet visits, was also relieved to see the happy fatty being happy again.
The surgery itself cost 1400 quid, this is excluding the emergency take in at the other vet.
It's not the money that I'm irritated about, no.
It's the fact that the vet basically lied to me, saying that medication would prevent this ordeal whilst knowing that surgery is the definitive answer.

I think it's a bit cheesy to say "I've learned something from it" but I did.
I learned that despite what vets tell you that they can manage it on diet and medication, penile surgery is the only permanent solution for male cats with FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease)
A problem that frequently occurs in castrated male cats.

So to anyone with a male cat that displays those problems.
Do yourself a favor and opt for an "expensive" penile surgery.
It's definitely better for the cat as constant vet visits, urinary tests, medication intakes and all the other nonsense just puts unnecessary stress on them.
Now, Lenin's case was also due to his urethra being narrower then other male cats so it might possibly be that other cats will quickly recover from it.
But take it as a word of advice.
Save your cat the stress and make sure you get a second opinion or let them properly inspect his urinary tract.

As for Lenin, he's happily sleeping on me lap, not caring a single bit that he doesn't have a penis anymore.
He looks like a baboon with his bottom shaved but it doesn't seem to affect him at all.
I asked Lenin if I should shave a poodle cut into his fur but the only answer I got was "prrt prrt"

Update:
Took Lenin to the vet for a check up, vet confirmed his wound healing nicely, urethra wasn't swollen.
He eats, drinks and pees properly, no more growling sounds, no more pain!

Other cat of mine is 7 right now, excellent health according to the last check up.
FLUTD is a common disease for castrated male cats.
If yours aren't castrated then the problem is less occurring.

Ofcourse, there are factors which also increase the risk, such as enough exercise yes.
I might call Lenin a fatty but according to veterinary check ups, he's in excellent shape.

"that the animal is in discomfort all those months whilst it could've been prevented from the moment they knew"
I am still not convinced the vet took the wrong route, either through incompetence, negligence or some variation on the theme of malice. It could be, my knowledge of the case and again my lack of knowledge of feline urology and nephrology rather holding me back here, or it could be a close to some margin call (some calculation based on symptoms, age, possibly diameter of the urethra, effectiveness of alternative treatment, costings involved...). Invasive options for every type of medicine and even general device repair I do know tend to be "after you have done other things or in these limited list of scenarios".

Repeated medication yielded no progression.
Hence they presented the other option of penile amputation.
I was in favor of it but they insisted on trying medication.

I'm fairly certain they don't just suggest it for fun.

I don't really understand a lot about this type of medical stuff for cats. I just hope the kitty is fine and happy :)

My mother in law had a friend who's cat was diabetic was the weirdest thing... I only know because I overheard them talking about how expensive the insulin or humanlin or what ever it was they where injecting the cat with... I ended up saving them a ton of money, but it took me like 3 days of showing them everything online and that the vet was basically selling them the stuff made for humans (They don't make the stuff for cats at all) at like a 450% markup, plus vet checkups and visits that cost even more than the medicine.

Basically with out Google and lots of research I know nothing about cats or dogs, I just smile and pay the vet for my dogs medicine... (He is mega allergic to fleas so I have to buy him this stuff that if a flea bites him it dies :( it always makes him sick for the day but it beats watching him suffer so badly with itching and hair falling out.)

@Beerus can'r believe what i've just read: u like watching lenin pee???!! WTF?! do u have any sort of sick-ill-kitty fetish??

I do know that things sold at veterinary centers are double/triple the price of what you can find in pet stores but insulin for cats?
That's a first.

@Leon315, I'm pretty sure Beerus meant that he's glad that Lenin is urinating normally again opposed to the cat having trouble urinating.

Yeah Dinoh I don't even know how you would diagnose that.... I know in people there is sugar in the urine and lots of symptoms a person would say "I am experiencing X" but an animal would say none of these things :(

I guess they probably took a small drop of blood and used one of those blood tests?

Plus how many cats died figuring out the correct dose....

Bluefox, you'd be surprised what kind of surgeries exist.

Unrelated to veterinary medical science, human medical science has achieved massive breakthroughs.
Lab grown skin used for skin grafting to treat burn victims instead of peeling skin from their upper legs and many more.
Pig heart valves are used to replace damaged/non working heart valves in humans (tho this practice is old) but they're just mere examples.

I'd suggest reading up a bit on the medical world.
You're bound to find some really interesting things of which you had no clue off.

"Lenin" and "Transexual" don't really go all that well together in the same sentence.

2017-09-29 Lenin's butler RIP

Anyway, good that your cat is better! :)

Fixed the date

Yeah I was about to point out the date haha. I thought, uh, it happened a few days ago, not months.

A guy at work just had stints put in his cats urethra to combat this same problem, also seems to have helped. But I think it may only be a temporary solution.. Stints can clog up right?

Depends on where the problem persists in the tract.
Penile amputation is relatively easy so to say.
You're essentially removing the narrow end of the urethra.
But if it's from the kidneys to the bladder then it won't be that easy.

Ureteric stents are often used for the passage between the kidneys an bladder.
It should help prevent blockage.

It's in the upper urinary tract I assume?

I'm assuming as well to be honest, he didn't go in to details. Just thought I'd share an experience I've heard about myself.
My cat started getting UTIs really bad. and one day he just fell over, scared be badly. Turns out he has Diabetes, and once he got on 2 insulin shots per day he was back to his old self, was so relieved, and it was so worth it. 10 years old acting like a kitten now.

@Xdqwerty there is health behaviour you can add to your character, then to use a health bar is lil more complicated, google n watch a few tutorial video on it, be too hard to explain here.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, the character has the health behavior
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I know you have to create a health and health max variable. Then there is a calculation you use in code to subtract width size of the health bar. Google few vids.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, the "greenflatbar" is one of the preset health bars btw
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you can use any bar/sprite. It will just change the width. Ok good luck and have fun. I'm off to go shoot some pool at the bar. Talk to you later.
    +1
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, why does the health behavior exist if you can just use a variable?
