Anime series everyone should watch at least once!

Similarly to my last blog, I'll be giving some recommendations, but this time anime ones. I won't list OVA/OAV/movie-exclusive anime though, as those are for another blog (I have a LOT of them)! This time, I'm focusing more on lesser known (or almost completely unknown) anime series that are a good or great watch, but will list some more recent ones that went completely under the radar.

Aoi Sekai no Chuushin De
Starting with a pretty average one, but for people on this forum it can prove to be a fun watch. Imagine a medieval world with two kingdoms based on Nintendo and Sega fighting for supremacy, with characters being based on characters from the respective company's games and having superpowers, with the added bonus of seeing hotties getting their clothes blasted away every so often!:P

.hack//Roots , .hack//SIGN , .hack//Versus - The Thanatos Report , .hack//Liminality , .hack//Gift , .hack//G.U. Returner , .hack//Legend of the Twilight , .hack//Quantum
Yeah yeah, I know, expected considering it was in my last blog (hell, if I make a game suggestion blog you can expect these to be in there:rofl2:), but as a huge fan of the series that started almost as many cliches as Akira, it's a must watch for everyone who's interested in game-based anime or anime that blend computers with the real world! If you aren't feeling like watching them all, give SIGN, Liminality and Roots a try in that order. Expect some of the most amazing music you will ever get to hear in an anime when watching these too, so fitting ("GOD Diva" for example is EPIC)!

Grenadier
Sexy busty blonde chick kicks ass with a revolver in a medieval-Japan-like world AND has kinda interesting characters and plot, so what else could you ask for?

Bokurano
Fight to save the Earth from getting cleansed with different Earths getting pitted against one another and being represented by a giant mecha, with home and away fights. While the main premise isn't that interesting, DEFINITELY give this a watch, as it has some of the best character development out of all anime out there, despite having a huge variety of characters with deep backgrounds! This anime mainly revolves around a certain group of early-teen kids, with greatly varying backstories and can get pretty damn dark at times!

K (aka K Project)
Plenty people know of this, but most of the new generation of weebs doesn't know it, so give it a watch. It's edginess overload, with interesting characters and a sort of comical hook which keeps you along until the very end. I'm referring to the original series though, not the second one (which is decent at best).

Mnemosyne: Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi (aka RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne)
First off, heads up, this is an R-rated show as it contains a pretty damn nice amount of nudity, but also it can get VERY gruesome! This anime takes place around 1990 (but can vary a LOT throughout), in a real world-like place, but one where angels exist among the population. Angels are created from regular people seemingly randomly, with female ones gaining immortality (lucky them... except for all the torture in this show, lol:rofl2:), while males one gain immense strength and other abilities but can only live for a single week. The show follows the stories of two females and can get really interesting!

Rinne no Lagrange
A classic story that takes elements from mecha shows like Evangelion, about a schoolgirl ending up piloting a mecha and protecting her city against enormous aliens, so really cliche, but this one is good! And while this isn't a comedy or anything, whatever humor it has in it is actually funny compared to the cringey humor other shows like it have. On top of everything, it has some beautiful visuals if you are into that kind of anime watching, with a touch of fanservice...

Rozen Maiden (Seasons 1-3 and Zurückspulen)
A show about dolls that have been imbued with life by their creator for the purpose of finding a master to draw power from and fight until only one remains, who will turn into a girl that goes by the name of "Alice", a supposedly perfect girl that their creator has been longing for. A really fun show to watch, an interesting plot, beautiful visuals despite being outdated, AMAZING soundtracks (all 3 openings and especially "Kamp" among others) and the two most important dolls being gorgeous, especially the "evil ones" (with Suigintou being by far one of my favorite characters of all time)!

Togainu no Chi
Here we have an anime with everything it needed to be epic, but falling really short because of bad production. However, it's still a great watch, despite the bad character development and even worse animation! It's about a guy getting framed for something and as means out, he gets sent to a secluded city of undesirables, where people murder one another without a second thought and tries to find a way out of it all. If you decide to watch this series, watch it through to the end, even if it starts losing you, as the towards the climax you will see that awesome powers can make even a badly animated series look incredible!:P

Welp, I'm tired, so I'll leave it at this for now... I mainly got tired trying to decide what series to recommend as I have HUNDREDS of them I want to, but I'm too lazy to write descriptions of...;-; I'll probably make a part 2 sometime soon, but don't count on it, may instead do the OVA/OAV/movie one first! Anyway, let me know what you think about these recommendation blogs of mine down in the comments and also whether you have watched these or what you thought of them after you watched them due to this blog!

Just finished [C] CONTROL - The Money and Soul of Possibility because it was shortest of the series you recommended.
For me, it was only "watchable." The random screamy sound effect that started happening near the end of the series was annoying, and there is tons of sloppy storytelling, lackluster fights, and a super deus ex machina ending that didn't make sense. Everything else makes sense leading up to it, to include how they won and why Japan wasn't destroyed, but I don't really understand how everything changed to the most perfect possibility just by reversing the "thing." I don't even know why the plot gods decided to randomly gift MC the super plot item.
Side Note: Apparently the dad's diary with the numbers was totally meaningless. I was totally fooled into thinking it had some significance.

What "random screamy sound effect"? The ending made perfect sense if you paid attention to detail, but overall it's not amazing, just a fun watch that fits a very wide audience. The most perfect possibility was achieved by undoing all the effects Midas bank had on the country, so even if it exists still, it hasn't begun to destroy Japan, so it's like it never existed up to that point. As for the black card, it's called plot convenience and making the MC OP:P
PS: The diary got me too, lol:rofl2:

Oh I think I get it now. So because the black money phased from existence due to its loss in value, the show pretended that everything that occurred after it came into circulation never happened?
Chinese dude is the real hero then. He single handedly saved Japan.

Basically, the world at the end was the same as it would have been had black money never existed. Then, from that point on, black money slowly starts spreading. And yeah, the chinese dude was great!

The most impressive thing about the new Berserk is honestly how they managed to put that clang sound so many times in so few episodes:rofl2:

@ThoD Just finished Allison to Lillia.
I probably enjoyed it more than [C] CONTROL, but I still feel like it had way too many glaring issues.
Super contrived plot points and abrupt conclusions to every arc aside, I feel like they could have just removed the Lillia portion entirely. If they moved some things around/cut some stuff out in the first two Lillia episodes and combined them, they could just end the series there. It started to drag and things became so unbelievable that it broke the immersion.
Plot armor was pretty strong in the first half, but they take it to a level far beyond ridiculous when it comes to Lillia and Treize. There were so many radically stupid decisions on the parts of every single enemy that it's comical. Especially the last villain. He had a perfect plan, the greatest intellect, plenty of support, great fighting ability (he Matrix dodged Treize, while sitting down and holding a cup of tea, then knocked Treize out with a kick to the face), and could have succeeded a million times, but decided not to, and then killed himself for no understandable reason. If you are going to kill yourself anyway, just walk up to Treize in public and shoot him in the face. It's not like he ever has security around him.
You know it's bad when Treize's own mom is not worried about Treize in the slightest and said that she feels the God of Fortune is watching over him.

Allison to Lillia is actually more fit for the light novel. The anime had to be REALLY rushed to fit what was actually worth 70 episodes into the 26... The light novel is more complete, without key points having been stripped out. How much did you enjoy it though? I still think it's a really fun watch with interesting character, despite it's many flaws. No anime is perfect, especially serialized ones.

I'll rate how much I enjoyed it by the 6 you gave me.

1. Summer Wars (I don't actually remember much of it, since I saw it so long ago, but I think it rates better)

2/3. Allison to Lillia / Mardock Scramble 3 movies (My memory is pretty bad, so I already forgot which I enjoyed more. Maybe Mardock Scramble wins. I enjoyed both more than #4)

4. C - The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

I will watch Zetsuen no Tempest next and then Hanasaku Iroha and its movie.

EDIT: It turns out my memory is even worse than I thought. I already saw Zetsuen no Tempest. I didn't recognize the name and only realized I already saw the series when the title of the first episode ran across the screen.

That's one bad memory you got there, worse than an old man:rofl2: Welp, Hanasaku Iroha is one of the best anime of all time but for no real reason (it's not unique or anything but it just works), so let me know your thoughts on that one after you check it out.

Just finished Hanasaku Iroha and the movie.

Minko is one of the most annoying characters ever. Her voice is grating and her personality is terrible. Never in my life have I watched an anime and actually wanted to punch a character in the face as much as I wanted to punch Minko. Every time Minko got into an argument with Ohana, I kept hoping that Ohana would finally snap and give Minko a black eye. I was very pleased when Ohana stood up to Minko in the beginning of the series, but Minko never got the beating she deserved. Oh well. At least Minko became a little bit more tolerable following the first confrontation.

None of the characters were likable in the sense that I cared about what happened to anybody. The anime wasn't bad by any means, but the characters weren't memorable. I just finished watching the show a few minutes ago, and I can't remember the name of anyone besides Ohana (main character), Minko (because I hate her), Ren (because it's 3 letters), and Tohru (because I hate Minko and she won't shut up about him). It's a decent anime overall, and I enjoyed watching it. No real complaints except for Minko. I don't really watch Slice of Life unless there is some kind of added genre, so I can't compare which shows are better in the same category.
