What is this about?

SO today, there is a planned walkout at school. What is it about? I don't know. Something about guns I think. Anyone know?

If it is the teachers then their union might say something.

If it is the pupils then they want a free period and have figured out they can do some faux political nonsense to pull it off.

If you want to be edgy then go to your lessons as normal.

If I was a betting man, it's probably related to the recent Florida school shooting, them passing a law that allows teachers in schools there to carry guns after the incident, and people being modern day, 2018 SJWs, all pretending to care about something, then do something like a walkout that really doesn't help the situation AT ALL and just gets them a free day out of school. Kids will be kids, I suppose.

Seriously, what's a walkout supposed to do about this? Raise awareness? The media won't shut up about it. Pretty sure everyone who cares is aware already. Hell, even if they weren't, these kids are obviously doing a TERRIBLE job of getting their message out, because OP, WHO GOES TO THE SAME SCHOOL, doesn't even know what's going on (no offense intended to op).

If by planned you meant the school planned it, then just switch the word "kid" with "adult." Still the same thing, just a different group doing it.

Why can't just all kids in America stay home for a week to protest? That will atleast show something major than a walkout.

...because that's illegal depending on your area. It is in a lot of US states. It's also illegal for teachers to strike.

walking out isnt going to change anything, we cant bring those 17 people back. we mourn thier loss fix what need to be and moved on the media is filling our minds with a lot of fluff in my opion.

That's stupid if true. What is that going to accomplish? If they wanted to do something useful, they should ask each child / family to donate $1 or something if they can. Send all the money to the families that lost their loved ones, to help pay for expenses.

@MadMageKefka of course, civil unrest is mostly illegal. But then again, what are they going to do? Arrest like 5 million childern?

Maybe, but it would be really intresting to see them fine all those parents if all the kids in America actually tried doing a proper protest. They just don't feel safe you know? That's a pretty valid reason not to go according to me.

17 min for every live lost in the SMD shooting, my school is doing to, and tbh I just want to enjoy my Pi day

@linuxares Well, according to Spectral Blizzard, this is a panned thing by the school. They are just going to stand outside the building for a sort of 17 min of silence thing. If it was an entire school full of kids actually walking out, no, they probably wouldn't fine every family for that. You just asked what they could do about it. That's what they can, and have done in the past about it.

They should do something like Australia in my personal opinion to stop this. It's freaking weekly almost now.

At my school they are going allow people to be out of school. They are going to be outside 1 minute per victim in the florida shooting.
