Is it wrong to be "proud to be an American"?

So I'm American and I'm proud of it. I'm proud of the men and women who have fought and are fighting to defend our country. I'm proud of the ideals and dreams our country was founded on. And I'm proud of. And I'm proud to live in a country with the energy and liveliness that is distinctly American. Now I'm aware that our country is flawed. I'm aware the government is far from perfect (though not as bad as people say), and I'm aware that the past few years may have been a step back in societal advancement, but there's a lot of good to be found here. All I've seen on the internet recently are posts on how tragic America is and how it's the worst place in the world. This comes especially from my generation millenial-gen z (if you consider gen z existant). I feel like this is part of a larger issue where younger generations "rebel" as a way to stand out, but end up being just like everyone else. However, that's a topic for a different day. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I wish people were less... confrontational for lack of a better term, and could enjoy what they had. Anyway, sorry for the little rant or whatever. This is just a piece of what's been going on in my mind lately.

Yes, a large portion of the population, and definitely most liberal politicians would support getting rid of true free speech and replacing it with something called free speech, that you only hold until you say something offensive, at which point they will fine you or jail you like they do in Europe. In New York, can't you already be fined heavily for correctly gendering someone who insists on you misgendering them? If they could make it so that they can send you to prison for wrongspeak, they would. All we have to do to know that is look to nations that don't have true speech the way we do. How do the liberals there act?

That Thomas Jefferson quote simply illustrates that despite drawing the best constitution, the founding fathers weren't right about everything. The constitution definitely should not be re-written from scratch h every 20 years, especially in today's America, that is filled with parasytic rat politicians and their donors who'd jump at the chance to completely fuck us over.

Except that the quote in question literally says every 19 years, soooooo

Also, again, I'm going to call you out on wildly misrepresenting circumstantial anecdotes for your benefit, especially since we don't *truly* have free speech anyway; hate speech, depending on the severity, is already a punishable offense. The first amendment protects journalists from conviction for exposing corruption and offering opinions, protestors from conviction for gathering, and individuals from conviction for opinions; it offers no explicit protection to individuals who harass others with intention to bring harm and/or verbally assault others. Laws in regard to that remain up to the individual States to declare, as per the tenth amendment

And you're not exactly fooling anyone when you say "correctly gendering someone who insists we misgender them" - just say you're transphobic and let everyone else judge you for that, it'd be quicker and more honest, anyway. After all, freedom from persecution from the government for speech isn't freedom of consequences from society

Being proud to be an American to me's like being proud of your heritage. I wear my coat of arms proudly. And you know your gonna find people that are like omg he's jewish we must shun him, but you know what fuck those guys. People die everyday to protect My country and I'm not letting their deaths be in vein. "Going into other countries though you can bare a canadian flag." They don't hate Americans, but their people in power use us as a scapegoat to their problems. The only thing I'm ashamed of as an American is that our money is not based on gold, but oil. Which stimulates the hatred, but also means America's economy without mad max road warrior fighting means it would collapse.

@TotalInsanity4 I think in the part where you call @alexg1989 transphobic, perhaps you made a misunderstanding.
I think what he's actually referring to (I'll give him the benefit of the doubt) is when you call someone by X pronoun when in reality they identify as Y.

From Wikipedia:
Personality is defined as the set of habitual behaviors, cognitions and emotional patterns that evolve from biological and environmental factors. While there is no generally agreed upon definition of personality, most theories focus on motivation and psychological interactions with one's environment.
Now if (let's say, being gay) changed the way you behaved, or the way you thought and interacted with others, you would be able to say sexuality has a role in your personality traits.

Is it wrong to be proud to be a human? Or a mammal, or even a biological entity? I'm proud to inhabit the Milky Way galaxy btw.

It's really not your choice so idk why you should be proud, but I get that it's supposed to make you feel good.

I actually think the government is worse than "people say".

Most US citizens naively crap all over their country. It's usually from a lack of perspective on what they take for granted. They bitch about health care and taxes and bad presidents but take for granted that we never fear (or rarely fear) being shot in the street, losing 100% of our savings, or fear that we could become refugees due to a border skirmish, or eradicated in a genocide. We're deeply deeply spoiled children in this country. I am sure there are plenty of counter examples so I qualify everything with "on average". We don't even know the meaning of poverty in this country compared to living conditions in second and third world nations.

Usually someone who isn't proud of being an American can be ferreted out by simply asking them to move somewhere better. I bet you'll find them complaining and crapping in their bed tomorrow and the next day.

To be fair. Complaining and being ignorant is pretty much our way in not only this country but is part of being human. We can't know all we need to know, so we trust and listen to those around us not knowing how much of it is garbage (and it often is).

Disclaimer. I'm not proud to be American, but I feel REALLY REALLY damn lucky that I am. I would never discount or crap on the privilege I was given by chance by being born here.

You should probably re-read the quote you posted.

Yes, saying that you are going to physically harm someone or threaten to murder someone should be a punishable offense.

I don't agree that "hate speech" should be a punishable offense.

"With intention to bring harm" Sure...

"Verbally assault"... lol.... I take it you believe "misgendering" someone is "violent"...

I dont' hate transgender people if that's what you're trying to say. I just am not going to believe that a pig is an elephant just because the pig feels like an elephant. I'm not going to ignore biological reality because it might offend some nobody's feelings.

i must say this has gone further than the topic american pride it goes to show that temp is no political ground sooner or late i imagine death threats will be said prompting admins to call law enforcement

Oooookay, and with that I'm done responding with you. I don't know if you're being stubborn or if you're so far absorbed by a propaganda machine that you're quite literally blind to any other possibilities for other political solutions to things you view as problems, but clearly there's no want on your end to actually learn anything

@TotalInsanity4 See? Alex's comments aren't new and I noticed those often on FB that lead to huge fighting, so that why I just ignore them instead of wasting my time to debate with them. I can tell that you made a great point but unfortunately, we couldn't change their mind.

no offense but i feel myself this blog should be deleted or cleaned up look Nerdtendo i understand your intent was to start a clean conversation but.....politics i feel have no place here I'm only sharing my opinion but looking back since the political board started at temp a few months ago I've seen train wreck after train wreck on threads

Why the fuck do you people always want to delete things? Politics is a heated thing. Especially today where leftists are trying to normalize retardation. So you should expect anywhere that political discussion is allowed will see angry confrontation.

And what exactly do tyuo mean by cleaned up? Who's comments would you delete? Who would be in charge of deleting comments? Why delete comments at all? Why not let them up and allow the readers decide for themselves?

^and righties are trying to normalize a "the Earth is 6000 years old and climate change is not real" agenda. Guess which one is more ridiculous.
