Starting From Scratch

So as of 2 weeks ago i left everything i knew and loved behind to start a new life in florida. Why you may ask. well to be honest i was just running away from the shitty situation i was in. Stuck in two deadend part-time jobs, bullied by the school system into skipping semester after semester because of some random bs they do every year last second. An being forced to live life knowing id have to spend every holiday and every major event across the table from the person i loved the most who didnt love me back and pretending everything was fine. so i left my friends, my family, and my home all behind in an attempt to change my future for the better and to put as much distance between her and me as possible. As of right now im a chef at a nursing home in florida just got my first pay check i work 12 hours technically 13 hour shifts for 3 days a week and get 4 days off to do as i please. Most of which is fishing but much like my love life it seems nothing seems to be interested in what i have to offer. been 2 weeks and havent caught a single fish and as of today some asshat from lyft ran my leg over while i was getting out of their because they werent paying attention. luckily im pretty sturdy so i only got some bruises and an f'd up shoe. but all in all florida seems to be a good change of pace ive lost 5 pounds from just the heat and all the walking since i left my car in jersey. But i still cant help but wonder if it was worth it, its not much different over here as it was back home. im still the odd one out regardless as to were i go, always alone in the shadows, i had hoped at somepoint to find someone over here to help me forget my past life and give me a reason to go on. but i guess that was ignorant of me to think that moving would change much. i left the cage that was my life to wander in the darkness beyond not knowing whether id find the same solitude i had escaped or something to give me purpose again.

New Jersey to Florida? Interesting choice there.

2 weeks is a rather short space of time -- even if I am moving light for a new shorter term contract or something then everything is usually still up in the air for me for longer than that. Similarly meeting new people as an adult is hard for most*, especially if you are not into bars and clubs (both of which are far from ideal for trying to get to know someone anyway).

*ever considered why most people seem to hang around with people from school, work or their family? Not something I would care for or advise pursuing (here or in general) but more an observation.

That said if you like fishing then while it can be a solitary activity whenever I wander around the lakes and rivers here there are people setting up side by side and talking to each other as well as those sitting in a little tent and not speaking to anybody. Can't say I know Florida fishing etiquette but it is possible elsewhere so I mention it anyway.

3 on, 4 off work pattern should allow you some chance to find something. If it was more of an all the time and then chasing around to get stuff done at the weekend it would be different but 4 off and hopefully those are not night shifts you need to come round from.

Beyond that I don't know what your interests are to tailor a response better. Said interests are probably a good start though -- do you like making things? do you like hacking things? do you do any sports (these can vary a bit but many will have such options)? do you like cars/motorbikes/trucks? do you like visiting interesting places (people wanting to look at plants and animals on hills and mountains around here for the most part but I am sure you can find the local equivalent there)? Any number of those will have clubs, meets, activities and such. Typically where I find the more interesting people as well.
Is chef your job goal as well? You mentioned the school system so I assume you have something going on. In my case I like building stuff so I might see if either a small construction site fancies a hand or local garage wants someone throwing spanners.

I like tropical places and i had a job offer with better pay in florida so i just went for it. im most and allround guy i prefer video games and anime but ive played nearly every sport throughout my childhood and highschool career. 2 favorites are baseball and soccer. i dont really have to many set things i would or wouldnt do mostly just avoid drugs and drinking since i already do dumb sh*t without them. can only imagine what id do on them.

Im mostly just bored right now i have the worst fricken luck when it comes to entering a room. i pull out one thing usually some yu-gi-oh cards or a game system and im like immediately surrounded by dudes. funnily enough the same thing happened when i brought a yoyo.

I guess a part is a lack of motivation probably a side effect of depression and the new Spider-man game being amazing. but its sorta hard to leave the house for extended periods of time.
