AIO PS3

So.....

I have started to put plans in place for building an AIO PS3. I have acquired a PS3 Slim (CECH-2003) and will be running ReBug on this.

As part of this I have stripped the console down and cleaned the dust out of the heatsink and fan. The Thermal paste is being replaced too.

So how is this an AIO? Well, I have also ordered the following bits as part of the build:

Corsair Carbide 50 case
Laptop display controller card with HDMI, AV, and VGA connectors on
2 PS3 Controllers
PS3 AV Lead
Sata Cable Extender

I am going to be mounting the Laptop Display on the inside of the PC Case with the PS3 connected to it via the AV Cable. I am going to run a HDMI extender from the HDMI connector on the PS3 to the back of the PC Case to allow me to output to a TV if I want. The HDMI Connector on the Controller card will be setup with a second HDMI Extender to allow me to use the display as a second screen for my PC.

The PS3 will be running on a 2TB drive and also have Retro Gaming options

you should also find a way to mod a pc tower fan to fit over the cpu, and another for the gpu since the ps3 cooling system is trash. are you going to have pc fans some how rigged up to work with this mod for air flow?

Consider delidding it, the compound under the IHS is pretty garbage and probably dry and crusty by now

I'm installing 2 120mm fans inside the case too. I don't want to attempt a delid as I've never done one and don't have the tools to do so. I'll post the full mod up once it's complete

Delidding is not an easy procedure and extreme caution should be taken if you do decide to I learned the hard way with a 60GB PS2 HW The B****** was melted into the wafer. So it was Violently Torn out for doing doing so.

360 , PS3 , WiiU. The Macs of Gaming.

I have made some SOLID progress over the last few days. I have successfully mounted the PS3 inside the case (cheated a little bit by using the existing lower half of the shell), reapplied the thermal paste on the RSX and CPU, Modified an unwanted ATX PSU so I can hook up a 1 tb drive I have no use for otherwise. I have started to modify some USB extension cables to take the place of the USB connectors on the front of the case and will be attaching the Case power button to the PS3 too.

Just waiting on the controller card for the display and I am almost finished

Pictures have been taken at every major milestone and will be uploaded with a full write up once I'm done

It's finished, I will be posting a brand new blog entry in the coming days with a full write up and pictures. Needless to say it has been great fun doing this and a massive learning experience. Things have changed as the project took form but the outcome has been well worth it.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
