What if we get something like the Dreamcast where someone releases a game many years down the line?

That said in terms of releases I thought the Wii died about 3 years before the Wii U hit.

@WiiU you fogot about the mighty Atari 2600 it outlived two folow up machines.

Atari 2600 1977 to 1992
Atari 5200 1984 to 1986
Atari 7800 1986 to 1992 it ended a few months before the 2600.

Also the Famicom 1983 to 2003
Snes 1990 to 2003 again a few months before the Famicom

Heck even the Master System and Megadrive are still in production in counties like Brazil outliving the Saturn and Dreamcast.

TC, r u Chinese? cauz only Chineses has difficulty when to use ''ff'' instead of f.

Type FF to pay respect.

I refuse to see a collection of dancing videos as games. Sorry.
It's as much as a videogame as Dragon's Lair.
The last Wii game was Rodea The Sky Soldier in 2015, as far as I'm concerned.

@UltraDolphinRevolution both just dance and dragons lair are most definitely video games.

video game
noun
  1. a game played by electronically manipulating images produced by a computer program on a monitor or other display.

Ooh a debate about the nature of games. Always tricky to define something using one of the words under definition, and while I suppose they are using video there (I usually go with computer games) I don't necessarily buy it having to have a display (though I did see that fascinating video by ahoy about the first games, though for my money I get hung up on electromechanicals in that discussion).

Personally I would add meaningful decision, and possibly action (physical or mental) to the definition (this does mean western snakes and ladders/chutes and ladders and for the Americans then Candyland get troubled here as there are no meaningful decisions). Given that you have to assume positions with respect to time/music, and not that failure is vital in such things but it certainly doesn't hurt then you can also fail to achieve in the game, that would be a game here.

@AmandaRose. In Just Dance you are not manipulating anything. The video continues whether you do something or not. In Dragons Lair you choose between video scenes, essentially. Interactive Videos but not really games, in my humble opinion.

I don't consider a meaningful decision a precondition for something to be called a videogame. IMHO interactive videos are videogames.

I consider a video game a piece of software designed chiefly for entertainment - this conveniently makes Just Dance more of a game than anything put out by The Pokemon Company since it was founded

UltraDolphinRevolution In dragons lair you are pressing button's to influence what happens next. You are basically manipulating what video sceen is played next and your decisions have consequences therefore it is a GAME.

In just dance you are dancing/swinging your arms about like a loon lol to achieve a score ect you are actively participating in manipulating how much you score so therefore it is a GAME. I dont get how that is so hard to understand.

There are books where the reader can choose what happens next by continuing on a certain page.

There are movies in which you can choose between outcomes.

Is the latter a video game just because it is interactive?

But anyway I'm happy for the support the Wii got, even though it was just Just Dance.

Choose your own adventure books are not video games, but in a certain way they are games, the same way solitaire is a game.
Visual novels in the other hand are video games.
The same applies to interactive movies like bandersnatch or minecraft story mode, these are games.

Adventure games like adventure, maniac mansion, and monkey island are all videogames too, a more elaborated version of the ones above.

Just for reference:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventure_game

All of those videogames are considered not only videogames, but also part of the same genre by wikipedia, so it is not only me that thinks that.
