Playstation Vs Xbox Vs Your Wallet

Yikes, i saw Digital Foundry s video on the XSX and the Road to PS5. I came away with a thought that both were disasterous.

The biggest takeaway for me was the amount of Compute Units in each console. PS5=36 XSX=52, thats really large gap... It suggest that maybe the XSX has a gpu that is One Maybe Two Tiers higher than PS5, oh oh... Even though the "teraflops" were close the amount of visual detail in the XBX will seem to be far cleaner at 4k. There were leaks and specs thrown out for a good year now following these two and it seem as though XBOX was misleading PS the whole time, we could see two different XSX console. One thats about the same as PS5 and one on a whole different level. Mark Cerny seemed very nervous and seem to try and quickly say it hast 36 compute units and then quickly change the subject. One source said the XSX cost $450 to manufacture and the PS5 $450 to manufacture, i feel as though they kept that second console manufacture cost secret.

On to the storage unit. This is what made me feel the show was disastrous for both. XBX will have its own Proprietary Storage Unit, this is how theyre gonna make their money, its not gonna be cheap. PS5 has an insane speed storage unit that you cant even buy right now and the only thing close to it is about $250... this is how they'll make their money, but PS5 games can only be played on select "certified" storage devices YIKES. Yikes Yikes Yikes, I dont know what to think especially because they havent revealed prices. Ps5 has 5 speed and XSX has 2.5speed but in the case of Load speeds IT IS NOT LINEAR, at most the ps5 may have a few seconds to milliseconds advantage. Hard to say until we see a head to head.

Games... Both showed none, PS5 was like "You remember Dead Space? Well you can see the monster in front of you but now you can hear him in front if you" LOL then they confirmed their backward compatibility was a joke and didnt even include PS3, yup if you remembered Dead Space too bad because its not coming to PS5 LOL. XBX showed raytraced Minecraft which is cool but that game came out in 2009, and Gears 5 running at crazy visuals. No new games Showed for both.

Price, holy moley will these things be EXPENSIVE, think of maybe $500-600 for ps5 and $700-$800 for XSX (maybe higher prices for both). Youre gonna go broke immediately. PS5 is in a lot of trouble because there were sources saying PS5 was waiting on XSX to announce a price and then planned to Undercut them, again. This time they cant do that. Im interested to see how greedy or how generous they get with pricing. PS5 has a nasty patent where they throw microtransaction ads at you while playing, yuckers, gross

At the end, power and all that stuff really dont matter. Console gaming is all about AFFORDABILITY and the quality of games that come to it. Nintendo Switch is the weakest of the bunch and outsold XBOX ONE X, the strongest of the bunch. PS2 was the weakest of the bunch but came with a dvd player and crushed both Xbox and Gamecube. Affordability and exclusives will be a big deal in my willingness to buy these console TBH, the last console generation just seemed like fortnite consoles and thats it. If both consoles are over $500 then for sure Im not buying until theres a price hike. What are your thoughts for those of you whom read this? Id like to know.

People are still gonna buy ps5 and series x for their exclusive, like me. Here in India we pay 40 customs duty for these consoles, but people who can afford will buy. As far as backward compatibility I already have a ps4 pro and series x , and my PS3 cfw. Most people have these

I'll buy one of them when they have a few exclusives that I actually want.

For now, I've just built a PC with a ryzen 5 3600 and a 5700xt which should see me for most of the cross platform games for a few years.

My opinion is that, with every game getting a full on PC port to Steam (unless if the CEO's so greedy for $$$$$ that they will partner with the basket of assholes that is Epic Games) nowadays, even games that would've gotten the worst running/least compatible ports in the pre-2010's decade of PC gaming, I don't see a single point of owning a console outside of convenience.

Sure, there might be the idea of using it as a set top media box, but let's think about that for a second: if I wanted something that could play, at the very least, 1080p video, I could get any RPi3/RPi4 or even the ODroid XU4, connect a HDD or get it to see a NAS, and boom, there's your entertainment box. Not to mention the various options people have in Amazon, Google, Apple, and other companies and their TV boxes. And then you have smart TVs where, if it's anything like my Samsung QLED Smart TV, I could plug in a USB HDD, or even stream things from a media server (IDK how exactly it works) all within the TV itself with no need for any external device other than a better quality speaker than whatever manufacturers waste their money on putting within TVs that have no business of outputting audio that anyone with any desire for at least tolerable audio would put up with!

I think that the current "recession" (we'll see how things play out, because it's not exactly being caused by factors that are considered to be "normal") will see the need for all of the damn devices that I see in the electronics department where I work to be devalued, as there's way too many streaming services, streaming sticks, TV boxes, smart TV's, and so many options that piracy is actually going up for the services that people want access to, but don't want to have to pay subscription fee on top of subscription fee anymore for because Disney wants its own slice of the pie, Netflix wants to go back to the glory days, Hulu wants to become the Facebook to Netflix's Myspace, PlayStation Vue wanted some of that Netflix money and closed down, and I think you see the problem: there's simply too many services for people to consider, almost to the point where they just look at it all and just say, "I just want access to the raw files and to be done with it!" Ultimately, this leads to lost sales, less subscriptions, less attachment rates, and ultimately, falling profits that become losses, and then changed service terms, changes to offerings to attract more customers/subscribers, and ultimately, more organizations begging for your time.

That's ultimately how I view the entertainment, electronics, and online service industry right now: too many options, the revenue is concentrated on a select few players, and eventually, company absorptions, buyouts, employee layoffs, and everything that kind of reminds yours truly of the after effects of the Video Game Crash of 1983 is how I envision all of this playing out, especially when consumers are trying to simply get their needs met due to how unstable the situation is ultimately because too many groups, be they government, business, religious, what have you, are depending on a country who's citizens are so desperate for food that they're eating raw animals or making soup out of their remains without performing the things that those of us who have lived in societies powered by economies that still use the principles of the free market to determine ownership of property as opposed to the state coming in and deciding who gets what based on factors that ultimately are beneficial to the state in some form or fashion when individuals refuse to govern themselves and stand up for their basic human rights while also basing their personal morals and ethics within a system that values honesty, integrity, and respect for the individual's contributions to the collective pool of society as opposed to the lies, incompetency, and complete devaluation of individuals as seen in China with their Social Credit system that judges individuals based on their contributions to a government that, if the people were to all unite together as one and fully storm Beijing after overcoming the conditioning from the state to break down their free will and thinking, China's totalitarian system would fall apart due to Communism requiring the compelling of the individuals under the tyrant's rule to submit to their authority or be deemed an enemy of the state.

I made a post recently where I capped it off with "Fuck China." And guess what? A certain individual said that it's not China's fault. Sure, maybe it's not the people of China's fault, but it is the fault of the Chinese government for creating conditions to where they have to control the economy to maintain their rule lest they end up getting overthrown. Communism's failings have been documented left, right, and center, and it's not just in the 20th century that this has been happening. Venezuela, North Korea, and China are the main three examples right now of the failings of a centrally planned economy. The fact is, people are inherently selfish and consumer-minded. That's how we survived as hunter-gatherers back then, and human nature hasn't changed at all throughout history. To deny that through the force of the state is to deny also the moral and ethical systems that previous generations have installed in place to ensure that civilization doesn't suffer a moral decay that brings everything tumbling down from within, and the solution to that is to have real consequences for bad decision making. This is a general statement, and isn't meant to apply to special situations. To be honest, a lot of these so-called "exceptions" often times end up proving the rule anyways.

@Silent_Gunner listen this sickness going around is man made. And it was used to stop the protests for freedom in China. When those protests were ramping up in seriousness all of a sudden this sickness cames out of nowhere. And they blamed it on "eating bats" LOL farcical because people (not just china) have been eating bats for millennia. It was unleashed to depopulate the country and to keep everyone inside. And these chinese people are so stupid that as soon as people started getting sick they complied with everything their government tells them. Listen, Im part chinese so Ive had to hear a lot of the b.s. propaganda since I was born, theyre stupid.

@jaymathis or buy an entire custom Pc that harbors a RTX 2080Super. PS5 games being only play able on 'specific' nvme drives is very sketchy. Same with XSX proprietary Storage Drives too.

I am still not getting this Epic games store hate fest.

Steam is a rather costly affair (30% with it only dropping when you get into big boy sales for what amounts to a payment operator and a few gigs of data).

Someone offers me a better deal, and possibly some assistance, and I am not supposed to use them despite it costing nothing to my eventual customers (can the literal same hardware use the thing? That would appear to be a yep). Does it require a radical software rework? Nope) and yet I would be the arsehole for using it?

@FAST6191 Tell me then why I got so many games off of Fanatical a month ago then for a whopping small amount all things considered compared to the cucked amount of entries I saw for the EGS?

Welcome to Economics Club. If this is your first night, you have to get more people on your platform in a way that doesn't just scream, "WE MADE FORTNITE, WE'RE GONNA RAPE STEAM, AND FUCK YOU IF YOU WON'T GIVE US YOUR MONEY!", or expect to become food in the game of survival of the fittest! You can try to fuck us consumers all you want, but if we don't give you money, just be grateful we don't live in an anarchy where the loser's fate is to simply become sustenance for the winners!

epics free games a week is a feature thats no other platform offers, its pretty good IMO although the selection is lacking. It also isnt flooded with garbage games either. Just have steam AND Epic AND Origin AND Rockstar Launcher AND Bethesda Launcher AND etc.etc.

I have no idea what Fanatical is. Search says one of the many online game selling platforms. Still not sure where you are heading though -- If you got more maybe that service just had more games you liked that month, maybe you just had a little splurge on such things.

I am all for failures in the games space as well, and would not shed a tear if Valve, Epic or any of the others went down in smoke 5 minutes from now. That said I am still at a loss for how Epic is trying to fuck consumers. As best as I can tell if you pay them the money they deliver the goods. Sadly they join most of the others in not allowing resale of things but that is a different battle.
