Nobody likes to see ads....but is it just me or are they getting worse every day???

It's not you, ads really are getting worse. They used to be just banners of a fixed size and position, but then they started getting animated, slideshows, autoplaying videos, then they started popping up out of their frame and over the surrounding content, they are terrible. And recently (well, for the last 10 years; everything later than 2000 is recent to me) ads only show for a few seconds before they get replaced by a new ad, on constant rotation, and since the page is dynamic, if the new ad is of a different size, the entire page jumps and rearranges to accommodate it. Annoying as hell.

could you please use this existing pinned ongoing thread to report any annoyance you find (details & screenshots welcome) ? we try to report them as we go. You have to understand that the ads are controlled by a 3rd party network and we have very little control with how they work. We just report to them when something's not right. Anyway, yeah ads suck but they're absolutely vital to a site like us where the membership system has unfortunately not taken off. I myself visit gbatemp without an adblocker all the time just to experience the site the same way regular users see it, and I report annoyances myself sometimes too. But most of the times I just ignore them.

@shaunj66 Thank you for setting it up for me. This site helps me so much in sharing what I work on and clearing my mind in the blogs, no matter how crazy some times, that I do not mind supporting it. Having the additional bonus of no more ads is really awesome.

I did send a message through Patreon itself, but also read the warning that it's not automatic. So I was waiting for a reply all this time...
if you need me to send any proof than please let me know, I just received my first receipt from Patreon if that helps.

@Costello : I did not really know where to report the issue without seeking any of you admins out directly, which I found a little to big a step. The frustration of moving content around all the time just reached a point that I could not hold is in anymore, hoping someone would point me into the right direction to properly report it. I am really sorry for "Abusing" the blogs for this.

I completely understand that a site like this needs ads in order to keep it "free to use". My issue with the ads is not so much that they are there...but more that they get in the way of what I am really here for. I will read through that thread and see if my issues are reported already by someone else. Now that @shaunj66 has enabled my patron privileges I do not see the ads anymore, and not on option to show them if I wanted to either.

With the way that ads have evolved on the internet of late, it is important to install adblock, because ads actually pose a bit of a security risk. As ad space is often rented out to 3rd parties with dubious ethics, it is possible that an ad may have malicious code even without the website owner's knowledge. I am not saying that this has necessarily happened on GBAtemp, but it is a possibility for others. Even if you whitelist the sites that you wish to support, you should still install an adblocker such as Ublock Origin to keep yourself safe. As for those sponsorships that get baked into youtube videos, I've been using an extension called SponsorBlock ever since FAST mentioned it awhile back. Works well, would recommend.

I can't make posts more the 100 words on mobile because ads are bound to shift around on the screen which closes my keyboard while im reaching for "n" or something and I click on another link that takes me away from where I was trying to post.

No they load and then they cycle to another one of a different size that screws me over. I thought it was just my phone but I've recently upgraded and it was still a thing

@N10A : I agree with your statement but it doesn't apply to all sites - there are good and bad ad networks. The one we are using is very strict and specific about what kind of advertisers it works with, so it has never happened and will never happen, guaranteed. However, on some shady sites (say torrent sites for example) this can totally happen. This is especially dangerous when 0-day breaches are disabled. If you do visit shady sites I really recommend an adblocker. But keep legit sites on your whitelist. Anyhow, we are planning an overhaul of our membership system, we know the current situation's not optimal, we'll have news in the coming months.

I do agree with the op, at least when it comes to posting something on my phone if I'm away from home. the text box does keep changing positions, and randomly the cursor pops out of the text box. or, the layout keeps repositioning as ads populate, so sometimes I hit the wrong link. it makes using the site away from home almost impossible. there have also been times when no links work unless I close chrome, then reopen it. it only happens when I'm away from home. I thought it was my phone, but t-mobile could find nothing wrong with it. it doesn't happen on psx place either, so it's a nuisance. I'll be able to test it again tomorrow, since I have an appointment early in the morning. I usually just don't post or don't post long messages if I'm away from home.
