This thought popped up in my head when discussing the Switch with my friend.
If the OLED is truly the last of the Nintendo Switch family, or we won't be getting a new revision until the far future-
Then it will have to compete with not only last generation's consoles, but now the new generation's consoles.
Honestly, I can't see the Switch competing in the market.
This can very well be an incorrect or misguided statement, but I feel like the only thing that has been carrying the Switch has been scalpers harvesting PS5's and Series X's.
I truly believe that if it weren't for the scalpers, the Switch's sales wouldn't be anywhere near as good as they are now.
With that being said, I wonder if we'll be seeing an entirely different console in the next coming year or two.
We've seen this pattern before, with Nintendo revising models of their handhelds before moving on to the next big device.
It's been 4 years since the Switch released and console lifespans usually only last between 5 - 6 years.
Once we get stable restocks of the new consoles, I seriously think the Switch's popularity will begin to plummet.
I feel like they've really shot themselves in the foot by initially restricting the Switch's potential and then coming out with the OLED.
Which then paves a way for the Steam Deck to succeed the Switch in areas it fails.
There will be no other reason to have a Nintendo Switch other than to play first party games on it.
It's affordable, yes. But it's the worst way to play most third party games, it's getting overshadowed by literally everything else now, the novelty of a handheld/console hybrid is wearing thin and the newest model has disappointed so many people.
This is why I personally think Nintendo is going to jump ship, in terms of the Switch's support and they'll push out a completely new console entirely.
But that's just me, this is just my theory on the topic.
I dunno how sales and such work.
Nintendo will get their money either way, thanks to their undying support from their playerbase and the fact that, again, you can only play Nintendo games on their system.
Just feels like they'd better make a move before the Switch generally fades into obscurity like the Wii U did.
As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
