recommendations on a new headset.

okay, so for PC, i have been wanting to buy a new headset. on xbox, the one that gets bundled has problems since apparently, my friends can hear some sort of static noise even though i'm not talking.

i would've wanted to buy CoD4 for PC and maybe WaW, but i am told that i can't buy any games . that's alright, i stick with CoD4 Cracked on PC since it is just too freakin awesome :D

i got a $40 limit with tax (but lets say it was $45 with tax, i guess that would be alright)
but the only reason for that is because it's free. someone is gifting it to me ^^.

any recommendations? preferably bought at my local computer store CanadaComputers or Tiger Direct.

i found these:
- Plantronics Gamecom 367 ($34)
- Plantronics Gamecom 377 ($38)
- Creative FATAL1TY $39

any reviews on these or experience? and also, difference between Open Ear and Closed Ear?

Open Ear and Closed Ear designs differ in how the speakers are enclosed. Open Ear has an open air design so sound leaks out like crazy with the benefit of better sound accuracy as opposed to Closed Ear designs. Closed Ear designs lose sound accuracy or something due to something about the soundwaves interfering with each other.

In this case, I have the Koss Portapros and the Sennheiser HD202s, and I prefer the sound that comes out of the Portapros. But that's because I can't stand the Closed design of the 202s and the sound gets muffled a bit it seems. I think I heard that closed designs seem to get a "better" bass, but that's not to say that open air can't do bass. There's a difference between "Thump" and "Boom" or something like that. Often, audiophile grade headphones are Open Ear from what I've seen but cheaper headphones like the Koss Portapros are open as well.

Well some of it's my thoughts and some of it's what I looked up really fast. I may be wrong in some parts. I'm not an audiophile, but I do know I like the sound from my Portapros over the 202s. And the two headphones I picked as examples are not audiophile-grade, so there's definitely a way to hear the difference if I compared the two on the spot. Out of like 3 people(Me, my brother, and a friend) the other two chose sound isolation over sound leaking. I admit, closed ear designs WILL isolate sound and I use it to get rid of external noise. I can hear people talking and people will hear my music if I use the Portapros.

I do find it odd that that they look almost the same even though one is open and one is closed though.

oo. i see. i guess you can say i'm not an audiophile. the only difference between my choice was something covering the headset...? it's a little hard to describe, but if you see pictures, you would understand.

when i searched up your Koss Portapros, i was just like O_O. they looked weird...

i am sorta, feeling the Plantronics one instead of the Creative ones.
