I AM FUCKING PISSED OFF!!!
As you all know, Portal 2 came out earlier today. I'm sure many of you got your copies happily whether online or in-store. For the online people, it's easier as you just have to stay at home and wait for the postman to give you that jiffy bag with your name on it, only to open later and enjoy the goodness. I pre-ordered mine from HMV online. This is my first time pre-ordering a game on HMV and I considered it because I had a discount voucher so I only paid £28 which was the cheapest around. So I went for it. Previously, I had bought 4 games from HMV and it came to me, only that the mailman left it outside my house in the pouring rain. Luckily, the games were well-packaged inside a sturdy box. DHL also delivered so I'm not surprised. I did not consider this as a sign that I should avoid HMV. I should have known...
So when I woke up today at about 9 and I was REALLY excited that I'll get Portal 2 today. This game was only the most awaited game of mine ever since it was surprisingly announced at E3 last year. 11:00 and there's still no mail. That's the time when I usually get my mail. I have researched more about HMV deliveries and just found out that HMV does not use Royal Mail. I started worrying. I wasn't completely pessimistic as I've had a recent order delivered to me around 2PM so I waited until 2.
Still no mail. Now I got really really worried. Researched more until I found out the courier they use was Home Delivery Network (a.k.a. Yodel). I've read reviews and Twitter feeds from people who ordered the game from HMV and I was kinda put off by the very negative reviews and the "Portal 2 getting delivered by HDN? Are you fucking kidding me?!?!?" I then decided to phone the delivery office and I was told that the delivery period is until 7PM. So I waited AGAIN!
Again, none. I gave up and took a shower. Now this is the unbelievable part: When I got out of the shower, after getting dressed, I come out of my room and peeked onto the front door, only to find a note that looks like a "Sorry you were out" card. Inside, I went "FUCK NO!!!". Turns out it was a you were out card. Before I've read stories from people saying drivers tend to get lazy and just leave a note without even knocking or ringing the doorbell. I didn't see that coming! The mailman didn't even bother ringing the doorbell! I even had the doorbell speakers inside the bathroom whilst I was having a bath and took it with me afterwards. Not only that, I wasn't alone in the house. Surely they could have answered it but I asked them and they said they didn't hear any knocking. This really ticked me off. HOW LAZY CAN YOU GET? I am hugely aware that they deliver a lot of parcels, but to get a lot of negative reviews from a lot of people, I don't see how they're wrong. All it takes is a "Hello. Here's your mail. Sign here please. Cheers. Bye" Because of all this, I don't get to play Portal 2. I will also avoid ordering HMV at all costs and lesson learned: research before ordering. I've pre ordered this game from that since since February so clearly I didn't do any research, but the previous order should have been a sign for me...
Now the part that is a "kick in the nuts": I have to wait until Saturday. That means Friday will just be an ordinary day. I was planning to be "hermit mode" to play Portal tomorrow but no...Also I have to go to the depot to collect the parcel. If I'd rather wait to redeliver it again, they won't redeliver until next week Wednesday, I'd run the risk of waiting all day again then end up not getting it again due to lazy driver not bothering to knock and the depot is only open until 12 noon so I have to wake up early. I HATE waking up early! That should warrant enough reason why it's a con.
Don't you wish you were me right now? You monster.
For the tl;dr people: I waited all day, mailman came at 7PM (past the delivery times stated on website), left a card instead of knocking, wasn't alone, anger commences.
Also, please don't be a complete jackass and spoil the game for me. It's the last thing I need. Thanks
