I've been using the YouTube app a tiny bit more, and it makes me rage sometimes. Here's everything I found wrong:
Profiles:
There is no way to access a person's YouTube page. This means that you can't view other videos they have made, their favorites, and playlists, which can make watching a series a pain in the ass.
Comments:
The commenting system is terrible. There is no way to directly reply to someone. There is also no support for thumbs upping and down or even viewing the rating a comment has. Viewing comments is nowhere near looking at them on a computer. You can't see a comment replying to you easily, you can't quickly see the uploader's comment/reply, and you can't see the highest rated comment.
Subscriptions:
The app limits the number of subscriptions that can be shown, without even implementing pages. You would have to look through every single video that was uploaded to find out if they had even uploaded a new one. Also, the lack of announcements can be annoying especially if one of your more favorite subscriptions are going into a hiatus and announced it. There is also no way to see whether one of your subscriptions favorites, likes, or comments on a video, which can be annoying for some people.
Videos:
For some strange reason, video buffering is substantially slower than watching on a computer or through Safari. This is probably a problem within the app itself. Unless you have a fast, low latency Internet connection, you'll have to wait for the video to buffer, which it sometimes even fail to do. Usually, if you pause a video at the beginning and leave it there, the rest of the video will not buffer. Another problem with videos is that if you were watching a video and accidentally go into, say, your subscriptions, there is no quick way to get back to the video. If you opened a link on Safari and accidentally went to a different section, you have to go back to Safari, and in some cases, wait for it to load again, and tap the video again. Along with this, it's close to impossible to seek to a different part of a video without screwing up the player. In some cases, it works, however, the timeline is shown as completely buffered, which is not true. Other times, the player just stops playing the video completely, forcing you to close the video and load it again.
The YouTube player is really terrible and I would not recommend anyone to use it unless they enjoy terrible navigation. The only upside from this as far as I've seen is that it keeps the look of iOS. However, the look does not compensate for all the cons of it, not even close.
What are your thought on the app?
