3DS - My First Impressions

I picked up a refurbished 3DS in Cosmos Black at my local EBgames. It's a pretty wild system. (I like the way it feels - it's very strong and pretty nifty.)

The two games I've picked up are:
Shinobi (holy heck, I think this is hard.)
Resident Evil Mercs (Will probably reset this and sell it again after I'm finished with it)

First Impressions:
The system is HEAVY. It's light enough to tote around, but add in the fact that I don't have a case for it yet, and a few other accessories, and hoo boy - I rather not carry this. I like the fact that you can hot swap games now.

The Home Button is slow. I dunno, maybe I'm just lazy, but it seems like everything takes forever and a day to get started. I probably won't buy anything online for the system - I don't see any use for the older games.

What games would you suggest? Most of these are pretty nifty, but I will probably end up reselling a bunch of them after I'm done with them.

Mario Kart 7 is pretty awesome. Especially the online play. Pushmo is pretty good too...took up hours of my life >.<

Can't go wrong with Super Mario 3D Land too. Besides the gameplay, the graphics are very fancy. It was a very different experience for me playing this game, it was my first 3DS game.

Enjoy your 3DS!

What about Ocarina of Time 3DS? I've missed out on that on it's original home (the Nintendo 64). I mostly play handhelds...

It feels weird - I've been gaming with the NDS for so long that I've been reaching for the power slider and the D-Pad for a while. It's embarrassing.

Also, I like using Hunk in RE Mercs. His flashbang grenades and his weaponary are pretty good.

SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked. Whether you've played the original or not, it's worth getting. Fully voice acted, new demons, demons have different skill sets, 8th day, etc. There's a ton to do, and a lot is different from the original.

Ocarina of Time. If you haven't played the original you definitely need to get it. Great game.

Mario Kart 7. It's mario kart. It's basically a requirement to own it. Tons of hours to be spent on it.

Tales of the Abyss, comes out next month...I forgot the exact date. The 13th or something. A must have.

Super Mario 3D Land is kinda fun too if you can pick it up cheap. It's incredibly easy (even the special levels) and it hasn't lasted me very long.
Do you find the positioning of the D-Pad to be horribly misplaced.
It is very easy to control it with the bottom of your thumb, just the tip of your thumb makes things awkward a tiny bit.
Oh and definitely get Mario Kart, you pretty much have to :P

I don't find the 3DS heavy at all.

D-pad placement could be a little better but I rarely use it now.
As for the layout, I find now that instead of aiming for the wrong places on the 3DS, I now sometimes aim for the side volume control if I go back to the DS Lite, or going for the Start/Select buttons underneath the screen..

How about that stylus placement... I wish they would have left it in the side. Sure, it probably falls out less often, but it used to be so easy to get to without thinking about it. Now I have to look for it every time.

Yeah I NEVER use my stylus anymore. It's too much of a hassle to get it out.
