Filetrip original mockups

Just for fun I thought I'd show off some of the mockups I made during Filetrip's conception back in 2009.

Of course Filetrip is no longer around due to a host of problems. But we had fun conceptualising the site back in late 2008-09.

I think the idea had originally developed while Costello was studying in Oxford and we were house mates for a short period of time. We also had the idea for a game/hardware swapping service website that never came to fruition.

The mockups were made in Photoshop and are a fun look at how web design was looking in 2008/09.

This is the very first mockup I made of Filetrip. I think this is actually my favourite looking in hindsight. It has more in common with modern day web design than the variations that followed.

This one is a more serious revision that has most in common with the initial Filetrip launch. Gradients EVERWHERE.

Preview of the homepage. No idea why I made the news updates so miniscule.

A mockup of the upload process. I really wanted to make the interface as simple as possible. Notice how I mispelt "platforms" as "platformers". Can you guess my favourite genre of game? Lol

Notes for Costy who would (and still does) take my mockups and make them functional. We really wanted to prevent multiple versions of the same file and create a working version system for new releases of firmwares, homebrews etc. and keep them all catalogued nice and tidily.

It's quite impressive how close to the Photoshop mockups we got in terms of design. Some things such as the usermenu drop down didn't make it (didn't make much sense from a usability stand point) nor did the rounded corners on buttons (wasn't so simple back then).

Well that's all I have really. Not sure if this will be of interest to anyone but it was fun looking back :) (was it really nearly 12 years ago!?)

Maybe I'll share some ShopTemp mockups and notes one day?

Good bit of nostalgia there @shaunj66!

I remember grabbing many DS files from there among other things back int' day!! Good times!

Good to see these pics from before I started using it. They look very close to what I remember if not exact but you'd know better than me the finer details.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

Nor clothes 🤮 . Saves on time, soap, water and money having to wash them. :D
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
