Finally done it

I'm quitting smoking and its day two but I feel really confident. I have quit for about three months a few years back and this is what it felt like in the beginning that time as well. I only started smoking again last time due to drinking and playing cards all the time. So based on last time if I subtract drinking (which is a great choice too) then I probably should not end up smoking again. I am using lozenges and they really work great. It curbs the craving and makes my mouth tingle, as though I smoked a cig.

Wishes for luck go below.

Thats awsome that your kickin tht bad habit U GOT THIS!! :yaynds:

Good luck man. With cigarettes at $5+ a pack, I don't see how people can afford to smoke anymore.

I wish you the best of luck. I quit cold turkey a couple years ago myself, and indeed it never really took until I stopped drinking as frequently as I had been. My grandfather used peppermints to fight the urges when a craving arose, so the lozenges are a great idea. You've tried before and seem to know what went wrong, and you now have a plan and a substitute for the fixation. I have no doubt you'll succeed.

I tried many times using all kinds of products, gums, patches, e-cig, and I was able to not smoke for half a year on each one over 5 years until I stopped using the alternative nicotine systems and I started smoking again months later. They all failed me in the long run. I'm glad though some people have success this way though most smoker's won't given enough time.

In the end I had to stop fooling myself, once you understand that those products are just substituting smoking for the addicting part of the habit that is nicotine you begin to see that the way to really quit and stay smoke free is to just make up your mind and understand all the negative impact's from smoking then learn all the positive things that come from being a non-smoker and quit cold turkey.

I found my addiction was mostly a mental one from being brainwashed in so many ways that you don't even understand until you are explained It all. The nicotine cravings can be overcome If you know what to do. There is actually a NDS game called (my stop smoking coach) and It explains everything in a way that really helps you understand. I believe It helped me to quit and I owe Nintendo for that one.

I'm not going to wish you the best of luck though because luck has nothing to do with quitting, instead seek information and support and you WILL overcome and be a better healthier man for It. :)

FYI, asking for good luck wishes and encouragement at this stage is not a good idea. Research has been shown, those who show off a goal before completion are more likely to drop it before finishing than those who don't. This is because the feeling of people saying "good luck" now, or "congratulations" later, is the same to your brain.

its a major problem here - for my age group that is / 18-22

e.g. the average price here for a pack of 20 is 2,000 Lebanese pounds (that like literally a litter over a 1$ USD) where 1500 Lebanese pound = 1 USD / someone do the math cnt be bothered xD

anyway Best of luck ! :D

thanks for all the replies. the wish for luck is meant as a term of endearment, not a literal "luck" wishing upon me. i know luck does not have to do with choice. if i can just choose to not smoke, then i will make it. so far so good, three days in, but GOD DAMN ITS TOUGH right now. really fighting this one.

luckily adult swim has the room on tv in marathon format. ;)

My dad used to smoke 3+ packs a day, and he just quit cold turkey one day; haven't touched a single cigarette since.

lots of respect that day.

edit: good luck, and if you think that quitting smoking will be for your upcoming child (congratulations) more than yourself and it'll be hella lot easier.
