i updated my switch; and this is why

the games,

got bored of waiting for homebrew and felt like I was never really enjoying it to the extent I would have liked.
I will time travel back in 7 or 8 years to see if anything changes

k thx bye,
(I updated my consoles to 4.0.1 after waiting months for anything new (hacking wise.) for anything releasing)

Right. Now what can you do with homebrew on the Switch that you can't on the computer or a mobile device?

ROM hacks are about the only thing that would attract me.

And there will not be a solution to play newer games or use emuNAND on a 3.0 Switch because of eFuses.
what makes you think that efuses are going to have any effect on an emunand? Theyll stop downgrades of course. You realize that xbox 360 had efuses as well and its cracked wide open pretty well right?

Quoting for the future :)

You also forgot that Switch has eFuses, unlike 3DS, Wii U, Wii, or DS. So while it may not be impossible to work around, it will take a while.
Do you have any idea on what you are saying? I mean really or you just read some fancy words and is repeating them back?

X360 had efuses... it was hacked wide open with JTAG... to this day you can get a xkey and hack it to play backups, xbla and everything else on external hardrives...

unless you have access to a hacked higher firmware system, then you could decrypt it and reencrypt for the older system with older keys.
To have access to a hacked higher version you would first need a hack that works on that version. Sure there may be one in the future, but as of now you can't.

IIRC daeken said it would be a large obstacle to work around.

Another IIRC, the way the Switch works is that it checks the eFuses blown and compares it to the number required by the firmware version, so if they are different there will be a problem.

No, he said it may or may not be an issue he didnt know. I doubt anyone does at this point. I'm not sure you know what emunand is, were you around the 3ds scene for it?

I really do fail to see any point to homebrew that does not include piracy.
Many things Raspberry Pi can do a lot better
Some things Nintendo will have an official solution to in future patches (that might just come out before the home brew does)
Cheats and hacks are unneeded if you take the time to actually learn how to play
And if you can still justify playing ROMs for games that have been lost to the depths of times (IE: not currently on the eShop) then there's the Wii U and smartphones.

I've said it before and I said it again, 90% of all homebrew is for piracy. The other 10% is for making piracy easier (FTP clients, Freeshop, etc)
About cheating, I have never been a full on cheater I am more the sort of person who takes away the grind and unfairness of certain things, for example in fighting games I never cheat except say for cheap bosses like Geese in Fatal Fury, at my skill peak as a teenager he would of been difficult, as a adult in my 30's with not the same time or patience to put in (not out of laziness but backlog and exhaustion from work) im not learning every pattern of a character to win, for rpgs even things like Pokemon I do exp mods, not to level 99 but enough so I don't come across situations where even if I grinded and had a good supply of healing items a situation like a rare enemy or boss battle comes up where unless I was max hp all the time and healing every round (thus making a battle as much as 10 times or more longer) and still being one mistake or boss super move away from slaughter, even worse when the last save point was like a hour before I got to that point.

I also cheat to unlock things like extra costumes that require insane amounts of playing a game (like hundreds if not thousands of hours) to unlock everything.

On the piracy side, I hack my consoles for things like a all in one centre, for optical media based units I also did it so I didn't have to wear out the drive and games ran a tiny bit faster but for all it was to have everything on one hard drive/card and put the originals in storage.

On the PS3, CFW enabled me to not have a region lock on my blu ray player, it meant I could play my older ripped video content, I could play emulators (of games I owned) on my crt tv for many retro consoles in component/vga upscaled, with filters, save states and could transfer my progress on certain games/emulators to the pc version by pen drive.

On the Xbox before that I could do very similar even if usb support was a nightmare, and changing hard drive was a nightmare (to this day it seems the easiest way to have both save states and cheat usage on Sega CD emulators), before that I used the Dreamcast for emulation and mp3 support but the emulators were not full speed.

Hacks also enabled me to back up my rare games like Suikoden 2, Valkyrie Profile, Lunar and keep the discs brand new condition as I was using backups (emulation makes it even easier and doesn't damage the original hardware and lets me play at higher resolutions)

I just want to add to this, you can always play odyssey or whatever later. Its not going away, but if homebrew doesnt progress past 3.0 I'd like to see you find a switch in 2-3 years thats 3.0 or lower. I have no problem waiting for 2-3 years for an emunand solution or to get a used switch cheap to play new games. Glad I have my 3.0 to fuck around and experiment with at the start of the hack wave. Maybe I'll discover something cool myself.
Right.
At this time, going past 3.0 is the point of no return, and the games for the Switch won't be going anywhere within the next 5 years for sure, so yeah, one thing carries more weight than the other.
I want to buy Odyssey an Doom for sure, but I'm not having blue balls just because I didn't get them at release day. I can wait, no problem.
Besides, it's like I don't have the other games to play other than those two, I can hold off, and even better if I find Doom for a more accessible price later down the road

For now, I'll stay on 3.0.0 and hold on to it as a long-term investment, which is what most kiddos here don't know the term of, they just to play and do at the moment, not later nor wait for it, but guess that's society as a whole today. /shrug

Yes, I was.

emuNAND stands for emulated NAND. It is stored separately than on the NAND chip inside the system, and is loaded through an exploit. Also called redNAND, or redirected NAND.

There could be something that lets the Switch's GPU underclock while portable be reversed
I am fairly certain Nintendo would not have underclocked the GPU in portable mode unless it was necessary.

However, that is the first real counter to any claim of ours I have seen in this thread so far. Good job!

I don't understand why people need to make such a thing about updating. Anytime a thread starts where someone asks if they should you get 20 salty dudes who updated to play some shite game trying to convince him to update too. We don't give a shit if you update or not. You bought it, its yours do what you want. I am more interested in security and hacking so when somebody asks I give them up to date information and tellthm to make their own mind up, then 20 of you guys jump into the thread that clearly dont give a fuck about hacking it and try to convince them to update. If ya'll aren't salty, why do you care so much? Why are you in every thread?

They did. It's underclocked for efficiency sake

I don't know if I am guilty of telling others to update or not, I am just defending my reasons to do so. And you insulting those who updated doesn't make it any better.
As for this thread, I feel the OP definitely was seeking for a debate out of this thread, and if he wasn't he should have phrased things better.

I bought one for homebrew and one for new games. But honestly the fellow who opened the thread just did so as click bait but I mean his timing is laughable. It's that nice time when homebrew is about to come in. In terms of the whole well you can do it on a tablet or smart phone you can but it's just sorta gimmicky? I don't have a good word for it. Whereas the switch was designed with videogames in mind. Lately I have had so much fun with my vita and pstv I am very excited for what the switch will do once software has been developed for it. But it's totally a long haul approach. Which I might add has led me to quite the collection of modded consoles at this point. Beginning with snes and including gosh everything since pretty much. Certain consoles I never modded but I was able to emulate.

While the pc is the ultimate emulation device you just can't really easily take one with you everywhere. Sure a laptop or tablet gets close but it's still bulky. The switch is like that perfect combination of controls, nice screen, and well made. I hear people mention certain android tablets or various Chinese but compared to having a switch with software like nintendont or retroarch it's a no contest I feel.

I'm not insulting anyone, again I dont care who updates or dont. What I care about is valid up to date information being available for those who want to decide and every single thread is flooded with people coming in without facts, just saying things like "OH they'll eventually hack 4.0+ firmwares". That is not a fact or a given by any stretch of the imagination. PS3 has been stuck at 3.55 for like 5 years almost, Vita is stuck at 3.60 for the foreseeable future. Security is getting better and more complex.

If you would rather use your computer for the things that people want hacked shit for thats fine. Why are you so worried about why theyre doing it? Why do you feel the need to convince people that you're right? I promise you theres things that will happen with homebrew on the switch that you cant do on your ;laptop for as long time, until a solid Switch emulator comes out.

Huh. Must've read something in your post that wasn't there, or I was thinking of someone else when I said "you". Just remember that you are a minority. You will get parties from both sides who are just as bad.

Honestly, I would love to have a 3.0 Switch for the same reasons you want to have one, exploring security. I'm not telling people that have them that it is bad to have one, just their reasons aren't that great.

If everybody were as interested in security as you, I wouldn't be fighting my case.
