Monster Hunter Diaries: Stories of a Bow Newbie Day 1

First things first. I play a lot of Monster Hunter. I'm not very good at it, mostly I use the dual swords. Quick damage, easy to control, and just worry about dodging heavy attacks. In later ranks, there are monsters with hugely spread patterns to prevent up close and personal attacks. I have resolved to practice using a bow, and go through the "urgent" quests of this game with end-game bows.

Here's the gear I have so far!

Weapons Available:
- Warflare Demolisher (brachydios weapon)
- Arko Tri (Y) (bug weapon)
- Kelbi Strongshot
- Bamboo Okina (not fully upgraded, but fun to use.)
- Arca Insantia
- Galebender (diablos bow...)

Armour Available:
- Gigginox X (awaken, status ak +2, hge) --> will be my sleepbomb set
- Nargacuga Z (evasion +2, earplugs (will be upgraded if I'm using a bow with more slots), stam recovery up, focus)

Day 1: (Double Trouble - Rathian/Rathalos)

The village crier had gotten wind of a Rathian and Rathalos pairing in the wooded area near the forest. The family that lived close to the woods had sighted some massive bowel movements a few days after their prize stud bullfango went missing. They claimed to see a flash of green wings and a odd keening sound from the nest area. I was paid in advance to take care of these two. The zenny quickly changed hands, and I went into my armoury to see what I could pick up.

I settled with the Arko Tri, a thunder bow. I picked up some exhaust coating and some paralysis coating, intending to sleepbomb these two. After I set in my supplies, I then picked up some extra armour from the blacksmith.

In the field, I found rathian first. I shot her out of the sky with a well-placed arc shot. I expend all my paralysis shots to find that I have only one shitty barrel bomb. I'm about to put it down, and Rathalos comes along. I manage to dung bomb rathalos, and continue hitting Rathian. She flies off twice. I finally manage to put her down, and with an arc shot as well.

I find rathalos, and I quickly spend all my exhaust shot. It's drooling and completely easy to fight now. I managed to put it away with a couple of shots, and I keep sniping it out of the air with the arc shot. It's going well, and rathalos heads off to it's nest. I try one last arc shot, and I miss. I ended up following it to the nest, and shooting it twice in the head to end the fight.

Total Time: 24 minutes
Notable Rewards: 2 rathian plates. Apparently, Rathalos doesn't want to give up a plate as well.
Skills Improved: Aiming the arc shot.
