Monster Hunter Diaries: Stories of a Bow Newbie Day 2

Weapons Available:
- Warflare Demolisher (brachydios weapon)
- Arko Tri (Y) (bug weapon)
- Kelbi Strongshot
- Bamboo Okina (not fully upgraded, but fun to use.)
- Arca Insantia
- Galebender (diablos bow...)
- Megiddo Phoenix
- Worldseer's Bow

Armour Available:
- Gigginox X (awaken, status ak +2, hge) --> will be my sleepbomb set/use with the Bamboo Okina (water weapon)
- Ingot X (Thunder Atk +2, Pellet/Spread Up, Evade Extender, Spectre's Whim (I might gem in focus in lieu of recoil down +1 - it was a bowgunner set) --> an extra edge against water monsters!
- Nargacuga Z (evasion +2, earplugs (will be upgraded if I'm using a bow with more slots), stam recovery up, focus)

So, after a bit of research, I ended up retweaking my Ingot X set to use the bow. It was a bowgunner's set and heavy bowguns are not my style. I might end up using this for a final showdown against Silver 'Los - I want his armour set pretty badly.

I also ended up farming Jhen Mohran for two extra bows. The worldseer's bow (dragon) and the Megiddo Phoenix (fire). I was missing one brace+ and two elderdragonblood for the first builds of each bow. I ended up fighting low rank Jhen for 'em...

Day 2: (The Fisherman's Fiend)

Ah, the lagi. It's a underwater wyvern, and I've brought frogs and my new dire miralis bow. It's a pretty fun bow to use. Unfortunately, my narga z armour set is ultra weak to thunder, which lagi spams like a boss. (Although, if I get away from it, it's easy enough to fill it with holes.) Anyhow...it's my first underwater bow fight, and I've eaten for thunder resistance.

The guild sweetheart was worried. She noticed my new dire miralis bow and she ended up frowning when I took the low rank lagi urgent quest. I ended up consoling her with a few quick words and saying that I had my two companions, Cha-Cha and Kayamba! I left her with a kiss on her cheek and a promise to buy her dinner after this mission. :)

Anyhow, I was rocking my green nargacuga armour and looking in my item box and I came up with a frog to fish out lagi. I head out into the field, toss my fishing line into the water, and wait for lagi to take a bite. Unfortunately, I lost my patience, and dived into the water after five minutes of the fight. It had just entered the area, and startled me.

I quickly equipped my paint coating, and blasted lagi in the face with a pierce shot. I start spamming the max level spread shot. Immediately, I notice that it's hard to fight and aim in the water. (The depths are giving me trouble.) I switch to slime coating, and quickly expend this using the spread shot. It gets knocked over two times in a row, thanks to slime damage and me hitting it's crystals. I risk a couple of charges to hit it with a pierce shot. It hurts pretty badly.

The lagi starts spamming it's area of effect attack. I can't get away from it, and I get zapped. It takes about a quarter inch of health off, and thunder blights me. The fight isn't going well, and both shakas are done too. I switch back to using spread shot, and it starts limping away. I chase it back to the nest area, and finish it off with a single spread shot to the back.

Mission complete, I head out to my date with the Guild Sweetheart. We end up eating at the Guild restaurant...

Total Time: 20 minutes (urgh, in blademaster stuff, I can make it in less than five)
Notable Rewards: lagi plate! Awesome.
Skills Improved: Underwater fighting.
