My experience with EA / Origin

So as a big Mass Effect fan I thought I would finally install Origin and get a paid subscription so I could play Mass Effect Andromeda properly.

My PC rig is as such:
- high range Intel i5 CPU (don't have the exact model right here)
- GTX 1050 Ti bought last year
- 8 GB RAM
- Samsung SSD 850 PRO
- Windows 10 with latest updates installed
- playing with an official Xbox One controller

Not *too* bad right? Not the best rig but still, I should get a good 720p with medium quality.

I downloaded the game from Origin. After 42% were downloaded I was able to start the game.
I played the intro but about 10 minutes in, the game froze. So I thought I would wait for the download to be finished and resume.
After it finished downloading I resumed. I have the latest version of the game with all updates installed and DLC and whatnot, it's the Deluxe edition I think.

For some reason every once in a while the controller stops working and the game only recognizes the mouse and keyboard (controller is fully charged).

At the end of the prologue when you board your ship, the Tempest: game breaking bug.

Two years later this bug is still not fixed ? You have got to be kidding me.
The workaround apparently is to talk to everyone on the station before the cutscene.
I spent literally TWO HOURS on this and finally got it to work by doing random things.

Anyhow I finally land on EOS - the first planet you get to explore. But by then it's already midnight so I have to go to sleep.

So this morning I'm trying to resume the game and guess what? the loading screen is fucking stuck.

So two years later this fucking game is ridden with game breaking bugs?
Does anyone even give a shit at EA? No wonder they get ranked as worst company in the world every year.

I can't even play anymore. I tried restoring the past 5 saves and they are all stuck. I have saves from before the Tempest boarding bug but no way I am spending two fucking hours working around the first bug. I have tried everything people suggest to work around the bug, but nothing I do has any effect.

I've uninstalled the game and cancelled my Origin subscription. Fuck EA.

Mass Effect Andromeda is the epitome of EA and their colossal failures. The same people behind that mess are responsible for Anthem. Which, honestly? Runs alright, but performance is hit and miss. A lot of the EA owned dev teams leave a lot to be desired. Respawn as well. I'm holding onto my subscription as I play at least 3 of the $100 titles of they offer. I'm not surprised to see your experience didn't go as planned.

Yeah it's pretty shitty. Only games I've bought on Origin are Titanfall 1 and 2, I play Apex Legends but that's free of course. And Epic's launcher/store somehow manages to be even more worthless. 30% cut of sales or no, Steam has over fifteen years of work that's been put into it to make it better from a customer standpoint. EA and Epic are dead wrong if they think they can replicate Steam's success by putting in minimal effort.

EA made the mistake of forcing a web based GUI. Using it without a proper connection is an abysmal time.

Well, to most people, Origin is great for free games.....but I guess when you own a website that used to host free games (we saw that dark little corner where you keep guns and drugs), it (Origin) loses some value.

On a fun note: maybe try changing the way you play, as in, watch the bugs and laugh :

I would have to be able to PLAY in the first place
Unless you consider watching an infinite/stuck loading screen playing? lol

I would call it fun if I planned to record it, send it to EA, and ask them how much fun they're having watching me not play. After that, I'd probably document their response to show them not only is their "work" trash, but their personal skills are worse than their ability to manage a company, create software, understand their fan base, and implement simple practices other companies made standard years prior.

Surprisingly enough, EA would probably give you a full refund if you fleshed-out the statement above and sent it to the right people who semi-care about public image.

If EA chose to brush you off, that'd give you free reign to open them like a walnut, which could send a lot of other people (who had no idea they held the power to slay a giant) at their not-so-literal doorstep with slings and rocks.

Hilariously, it seems these AAA titles are more of a gamble than the indie games nowadays, especially on PC. Sorry for your bad luck, man.

@PityOnU To some extent perhaps, as ports can be hit or miss in optimization, but Mass Effect Andromeda was simply a shitshow all-around. It's wholly expected under EA's working conditions, however, and not the first shitshow they've published by any means. I've bought early access Steam games that have been better than 99% of EA's garbage.

Dinoh, I am with you, but console gaming doesn't always just work. Mass Effect Andromeda is a great example. Did you know that there were a batch of MEA disks that will install the game, run updates, but despite being able to see the title screen will give you a message saying that you don't have permission to play the game? There was a burning error apparently. Anyways, you know what EA's official customer service tells people to do? BUY THE GAME AGAIN.

EA can't properly produce pressed retails, 343 dun goofed by having Halo 4 leaked a month before release and a 99% finished build of GOW3 surfaced 3 months orso before launch.
Clearly EA is the winner when it comes to fuck ups : D

Haven't heard of MEA not booting on console, kinda interested in obtaining such a disc for research purposes.

@DinohScene "It's one of the reasons I'm a console peasant, shit just works."

Apparently most of the problems I've been having also exist on console versions, thats what I figured out from my hours of google searches. People complain about these issues just as much on PS4 and Xbox.

I also have a PS4 I'll have you know, but I wanted to buy it on the PC so I could use the jetpack improvements that let you jump higher and stuff. https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectandromeda/mods/203

I have seen the game in action at a mate of mine, think he had it on Xbone.
He reported no problems tho.

I knew the game had bugs but outright refusal to work on consoles is, well was, completely new to me haha.

Most of us would have just been fine with not playing the game after reading/hearing about how bad it is. I admire your bravery for playing it anyway. And after all nothing beats firsthand experience.

I went to a garage sell last saturday, and the lady had a PS2 for sale, but she had a sign on it that said "Nintendo -$50", had to laugh, almost bought but she didn't know if worked, and she didn't have controller or cables, so I passed.
