Wow nice. I want to learn guitar as well. I also have an acoustic yamaha guitar my friend gave me. She said she doesn't play with it anymore and she'll give it to me as a present since she knows I really want to learn. Tell me where you learn and such. I want to be devoted in learning how to play as well. If you're taking lesson from a teacher, than I'm out of luck. I don't really want to pay for lessons when so many of my friends know how to play.

Well I was talking to PizzaPasta and he said that him and all his friends he knows all taught themselves, so I'll ask him more in depth about that, but I am also going to try and find some good software / e-books. I'll probably end up taking some lessons come Spring / Summer, but I don't want to wait that long to start playing, so I will be for sure trying to teach myself before then. I'll let you know if I find some really good stuff

Anyway I wouldnt be surprised if youtube has loads of vids to teach you the basics to get you started at least man.

Always good to start out with lessons to help direct learning. It helps to hang out with musical people too. Other than that, just learn the chords, look up tablatures of your favorite songs, and get them fingertips calloused

@Meatbrain: I want to take lessons, but I wont be able to take any for a while, but I do have a friend who is an amazing musician, she plays like 10 instruments, I'm going to get her to help me out lol

lol. The problem is.. I don't know how to read notes.. I had 4 years of music in elementary school, but never learned how to read a single note. I wrote down all the positions in stead LOL. It's funny how I know how to play piano though.. somewhat. If you ask me to play a B flat, I'd ask back. "What's a B flat?"

It's fine. Reading formal music notation is nice to be able to do, but for guitars you could tune it by hearing the notes and adjusting the strings to match them. Or you could use a tuner, whether store-bought or a computer program. Does your computer have a mic?
