I'm a "self-thought" guitar player as well...Actually, I'm a punk who likes to make noise, not much of a musician....But I know enough to play cncerts and have a good time!!

I'm playing guitar since year 2000...(wow, I never realized that it's been so long)..

Anyways, congratulations on such nice girlfriend (mine is similar like yours, she just bought me a bowler hat, stylish shoes and some microdermal heads in past few weeks)....She's MY best girlfriend in the whole word

I'm curious on how will you progress with your guitar learning!! (and I never learned to read notes either)

NICE man! Take the time to learn and enjoy that instrument. I started playing guitar back in '90 when i got my strat. I still have that guitar, and up until 2 years ago, i was playing that bitch daily. I miss it. Horribly. I just don't have time now.

That set of words pops in to my head when i pass my guitar sitting there staring. I've picked her up a few times and what i've learned, after 15+ years of playing... its almost like a bike. And those few times, it's been freeing.

So, go for it. Learn the guitar, its a great release.

You have an impossibly awesome girlfriend science. Its like a geeks wet dream come true!

seriously though ask about at uni or college, friends etc or whatever if they have some cheap courses going usually some students teach guitar in their spare time for a bit of extra cash my stepson was getting them for £1 ($1.47) a lesson from a student at his college so worth looking into

<- guitarist. been playing for 5 years now, self taught. started out looking at a few easy songs on a few tab sites. its not as easy as people make it out to be. in fact it does get quite hard. there were long period of times where i stopped playing altogether and there were days where i couldnt put my takamine down. well now i am playing stuff like;

I've hit a brick wall in playing guitar. I've learned the open chords and bar chords but now I'm kinda clueless as what to do next.

Pentatonic scales, my good friend. They are a God-send for learning to play anything other than chords (both good for lead work and fills). Pentatonic scales were the second thing i learned, and knowing finger placement and strumming patterns (the strumming patterns you can do by ear) will make playing so much easier.

Just google the scales and watch some vids as well. They are quite standard, and can be used anywhere on the neck, and are actually quite mathematical when you break em down.

Damnit, i REALLY need to get back on my guitar. I miss that beast.

I taught myself to play the keyboard and I actually use a guitar sound to write my own music with. Wish I could play a real guitar though!
