My Own CFW Experiences

So, I love tinkering with flashing firmware. More functionality? More control over my system? Yes, please. So, when I bought my used 3DS (Cosmos Black, represent), there was no availability of custom firmware for the 3DS. Heck, most flashcarts stopped working! I was happy with Pokemon and great games, and I ignored the scene for a while.

I came back when I heard that Cubic Ninja could be used for homebrew. But it seemed like the scene was mostly contained to people who were more serious than I was about exploits and the whole nine yards. So, I ignored it. Funny thing was that at this time, I found actual copies of Cubic Ninja at my local Walmart, going for $14.99. (I could have made a darn killing!)

Then came Gateway and Sky3DS. Those options were ridiculously expensive and made me want to cry. $100+ and going onto a sketchy website. Not for me, thanks. I eventually gave up at this point because I wanted to throw things.

I missed the Tubehax/Ironhax train. But I ended up hearing about browserhax/sliderhax. I never got it to work on a downgraded (9.2.20 U) o3DS...

I finally got my hands/brain around using OoTHax. Easy enough with a Powersaves....I thought.

I originally wanted a way to unlock region free on my physical games - because I sometimes head to Hong Kong and drooling over games is not effective.

Two months ago, I came into possession of an Aqua Blue 3DS. I ended up ordering extra SD cards and then doing the full downgrade and putting rxTools on it (because it was the simple way to go). I used it for two weeks and got sick of the boot rates and how lousy the exploit made my 3DS look (actually had two people ask me if my handheld was "crashing"). I also tried out CakesFW and that was too complicated for me....

At this point, I bought a 2DS, and I did the full downgrade, OTP and A9LH installation on it. This went flawlessly but ate up an entire day. At this point I was exhausted and stupid tired from doing the downgrade/installation all in one day. But the 2DS worked flawlessly, and I ended up....

So about a month ago, I managed to get my hands on a perfect A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL. I ended up doing the downgrade with a Powersaved copy of OoTHax, and a ton of patience. I then spent some time installating ARN/Luma3DS and A9LH. That done, I had to wait for my purchased accessories to come in - a screen protector, a case, and some extra stylii. I then did the system transfer - lost some of my savegames, but I ended up redownloading everything...

And now I have the perfect system for my needs. I don't have to carry game cases (except for DS games I like) and I can experience SNES games like Star Ocean and Clock Tower on the go...
