Schools are bullshit and the system should be modified

School nowadays consists of having forced to study stuff you'll never-ever need in your life, and humiliating you if you don't do so. If you're not good enough, you're forced to repeat the year, essentially shortening your life's meaningful part by an entire year. It also takes up way too much of your day, and thanks to homework and tests, even leaks into your free-time.

How the system should be improved:
1) Have less school per day
8 hours of school is way too much, and some make it even longer. School shouldn't take up more time than ~5 hours of your day, so you can leave at noon-early afternoon and spend the rest of the day hanging out with friends or at home.
2) Have less shit you have to study
Of course, if they make school time shorter, they can't teach you as much stuff. But that's alright, because they don't need to. Most of the stuff you learn in school is just to survive it. It's not like you'll remember most of it a day after the tests. They should cut the unnecessary stuff and only teach what you should really know.
3) Make tests easier, but not too easy
There's too much shit in one test, and there are people who can't study as easily and others, and have to spend way too much time to even have a chance. Tests should be less stressful and should contain less stuff as well; they should be easy enough so they don't take up too much of your time, but not too easy, so people who don't study anything will still fail.
4) Make studying fun/Employ better teachers
Have you ever seen videos from Kurzgesagt or Life Noggin? They are great at explaining stuff and easy to understand. Why can't (most) teachers be like that? A teacher like that is a real gem. I've sadly only had one or two like that in my life. Once, I've even had a teacher who forbid us from taking notes in class, so you had to study everything at home (unless you had really good memory).
5) Fuck homework and home studying
Written homework should not be a thing. School should not leak into your personal life/free time. Not only teachers love to assign written homework, there are usually a lot of it. And the more teachers, the more piled up homework. It's not like they talk about how much they assign on a given day. It just comes. Sometimes it's not that much, sometimes it's a fuckton. And for people who don't have much time at afternoon anyway (like people who do sports or live a long way from their school), this makes their life even worse.
Oh, and this ties in with 2), as there should not be as much shit you have to study. As I've said, for some people it's very difficult to study and this too takes up a lot of their free time. Leave kids alone, for crying out loud!

ITT: I'm stupid and lazy and school should be suited to fit my bad habits.

School is not your "fun time", and it shouldn't be treated like it is.

>"Have less school per day"
The main points that you make is that it's long (which in all honesty it goes pretty fast if you know stuff)
and that you need more free time. Newsflash. If you're the age to be complaining about the school system, your free-time doesn't matter. at that point, you should be dedicating everything you can into homing your eventual craft and studying.
>"Have less shit you have to study"
You make the point that most stuff is unneccessary, how is that? English is neccesary for anyone who doesn't want to sound like a dumbass, and or be able to write, like in any job nowadays.
Math. Required for many many jobs, especially construction.
History. Required because our culture needs to remember and learn from past mistakes and know them.
>"Make tests easier, but not too easy"
How, they are pretty easy already dude. Most if not all schools have you read the curriculum about what the lesson is, take a quiz which usually isn't that big of a grade, and then a test. If you somehow forget what the lesson is during that you're just a bad listener.
>"Make studying fun/Employ better teachers"
Studying isn't supposed to be fun. It's supposed to train you for life. And do you expect schools to magically have the funding to do this stupid flashy stuff? All these videos you also show dramaticize many points, or miss most of them at all.
>"Fuck homework and home studying"
Not really. Homework is an essential need as it allows you to go over information and therefore retain it after you might have been programmed in your mind just to kinda shut off learning after hours. It helps you push that information harder right into your brain.

@failzers I didn't know that my inability to study (attention deficity) and desire to socialise more are considered bad habits...

@smileyhead. Yes, they are. School isn't for socilization, just a side effect. Attention deficity my ass. I have autism and i still manage to learn information. Don't use it as an excuse. That's just lazy.

Edit: I know immediate family with ADHD too, and they did fine. Get your act together.

IMO college is so much better than high school. There's little to no rift raft and druggies like in high school (granted I go to a small college, so some still have of that kinda stuff like UGA) and everyone's respectful and all the teachers I've had so far have been pretty cool. Plus it's actually a challenge for me; in high school I sat there twiddling my thumbs while waiting for others to do there work (I went to a small school so no alternate courses to take, everyone in a certain grade took the exact same thing).

I can't really judge any of these points since i am not from america and dont know the school system but If we had the kind of Problems you described im certain that i would definetly Quit school right Now,and i have a question do you guys have always 8 hours since Elementary school or only at a certain school? We only have at most 6 Hours per day and that only on the 11 - 13 or 10 - 12 depending on what school your from.

That's why if I have a kid.. I would rather him/her to have a home schooling at least 4 hours a day. Your list is very good too and should be including anti-bullies because they are not doing a good job at protect students from bullying at all and it is lacking to ban bullies from school if they hurt one another non-phyiscal abuse at least 4 times and physical abuse for the 2nd time should be banned permanently!

Kinda on topic here but this week during my college algebra we were reviewing for an upcoming test. One of the students asked how many questions there would be on the test. The teacher said there'd be 16. The student "really? I expected around 40". The teacher said back "40? Are you crazy? I don't have time to grade forty questions, I got kids! I won't even put that many on the final!"

@rileysrjay Well, it depends, what kind of questions?
If they are multiple-choice questions, then the teacher is kind of lazy, he could even let a computer grade the questions.
If they are "solve a problem questions", where the teacher must review the procedure and check the result (no multiple choice), then I agree even 16 is a lot of work for the teacher.

@sarkwalvein This is college, so we actually have to work for stuff. :P
So yes, we and the teacher have to completely work out the problems and there's no multiple choice. In fact the only types of classes I've had in college that use multiple choice or matching so far are history and English (terms test, we still had to write a bunch of essays too), every other class so far has you working problems, translating stuff or fill in the blank and essay.

@rileysrjay well, back in my days multiple-choice was also very uncommon in college, but TBH our tests were perhaps 8 or 9 questions long, each question involving some long algebra problem, with the whole thing requiring some 2 hours to complete. I think expecting 40 questions of that kind is a little... over the top.

@sarkwalvein that person was probably expecting multiple choice tbh. There's a lot of freshman on scholarship and dual enrollment students (im one, basically high schoolers taking college classes) at my college and in my classes, so it's still kind of a learning curve coming from high school. This is my second year doing dual enrollment, so I have an advantage and I kinda know what to expect out of tests and quizzes. Also another interesting thing about college today is that almost everything is online except for the lectures and in class tests and an a rare quiz or two. But study materials, homework, and most quizzes are all online now.

@azoreseuropa Rather not start a flame war. All i'm going to say is that people come out more anti-social as an effect of the anti-bullying.

With high school level stuff, I tend to agree with the OP, however with college stuff, it really depends on what type of school you're going to (trade/tech school vs the more traditional university). At a tech/trade school, what you learn will tend to be more directly focused on exactly what you're going to school to learn, and less on the other "fluff" classes. With high school level classes, they tend to be nearly entirely "fluff" and almost nothing you'll actually use after, outside of a handful of electives.

Idea of School = good.
What school is now = bad.

We need more of a system that relys on your own pace and learn what will help you live later in life (Carreer, Taxes, Laws, Legal System etc.) Not a forced general thing.
