Stranger Things Ramble/Theory Machine *spoilers ahoy*

So I spent the last three days binge-watching Stranger Things. Yes, all 400+ minutes of it. It's a great show - like classic X-Files, blended with Are You Afraid of the Dark and topped with the team spirit of Buffy. So...basically everything a horror/sci-fi fan would love.

My first impressions were that Winona Ryder is still pretty easy on the eyes, and I love that they cast her because, she's pretty good at over-acting, which works for Joyce. And the sets are perfectly done - so damn eighties that I want to say it doesn't look fake at all.

My other thought when I watched the first episode was like..."Damn, they copied the opening for Elfen Lied." with the scientist running for the elevator in a panic.

Random Theories Up Ahead:
- The Demigorgon is immortal because it's the living incarnation of the Upside Down. Basically, as long as the Upside Down exists, it still does. My evidence is that the "gates/rifts" all growl like living creatures, and when El defeats it, they both dematerialize from our dimension. El could have just caused it to lose form in our dimension.

- El is the Demigorgon. El was tortured at the hands of the government. The day she deliberately made contact with it, she was given a potted tulip by Dr. Benner. Her tortured psyche could have created the creature with the idea of the tulip plant as an evil creature. When she touched it, she "gave it form", and lost control of it. More evidence is in the form of El saying goodbye to Mike and saying "No more." as she uses her powers to defeat it.

- The Upside Down is spreading into our dimension, taking it over. Every time we see the Upside Down, we see spores/dust in the air. When Joyce and Hopper both prepare to enter the Upside Down, one of the scientists says that "The air is toxic". When we first see the rift open, it's just a small hole, and by the time the month is up, the gate is about as large as the room.

a) Will could have been chosen by the demigorgon to spread the corruption/darkness of the Upside Down. Could be why he was kept alive by the vine/feeding tube in the Upside Down...and why he didn't have to bleed to attract the demigorgon. It also connects to why Will was coughing up slugs at the end, and hiding it from his mum and brother. (He looks like he knew that he was going to bring up that slug via coughing and excused himself deliberately to get rid of it.)

ai) Will may be a doppleganger brought back to infect the town.

b) Nancy and Steve's love-making session was deliberately cut with shots of Barb being attacked by the demigorgon in the Upside Down. The monster could have been mating with her. When El makes contact with Barb, we see the same slug type that comes out of Will's mouth at the end of the season.

- Hopper made a deal with the Institute in order to get access to their gate to the Upside Down. He could be working with them now - considering he knows about both the creature and what the Institute was hiding - a giant gate into another world. I think he also gave up something as well....but we'd see later...
