What's with the Obsession with the 3ds?

IDK, maybe it's because I have a switch, but people won't stop complaining about the 3ds not getting love, but it's eight years old, and people are still clinging onto it. It's a great system, it has alot of good games for sure but no one wants to develop a game for an eight year old system.

Can you blame people for wanting to develop a game for an old system and moving to current gen? I don't think you can... well you can, but I don't think you should.

I was hoping for the switch lite to be a clam shell, but I think it's fine how it is though. I kind of want to get one, and just hack my switch, and use Lite for not hacking stuff, not sure yet, cause even if $199 is cheaper, It's still a mighty price for me.

I think it comes down to portability, uniqueness, and backwards compatibility. playing gameboy, advance, ds too. It was so good that even though its older tech now. It lost out on 1080p gaming though with its 240p screen. just how portability works, they did try to reduce it with the joycons. I think the 3ds still serves a purpose that wasn't improved on. For new games I don't see a reason. It does say how much people enjoyed the design of the 3ds and Perhaps one day Nintendo will take note and make a 4ds xD with all that juicy backwards compatibility. and a sharper image to play their games on.

People were exactly the same when the DS came out, everyone wanted another GBA and for the GBA to live on.

I was one of them too, I was never really keen on the original DS. However the DS Lite came along and I loved it, even more so when Pokemon had online functionality for the first time.

The 3DS is the end of an era, especially backwards compatibility wise. That said i'm not bothered at all, I only ever used my 3DS for Pokemon, however have been enjoying quite a few varied games on the Switch.

The 3DS screen is lower resolution than that of the PSP, which was 7 years older - so Nintendo really had no excuse. The hardware had a few little additions due to the fact it was a 2011 device, but otherwise, it was sobering and comparable to (often worse than) consoles 10 or more years older than it. To ask developers to work on this device in 2019 is genuinely unfair. At the very least, it did have a good run.

Well, I’m not complaining about the 3DS not getting “love” (new official games?). I liked the system from the beginning, still like it and do not need anybody telling me “to move on”. More pixels, polygons, compute power! Bigger! Better! Improved! New, new NEW!!! Technical specifications… just… meh.
  • Are the games I have fun? Yes!
  • Do I enjoy them less because there is something new? No.
  • Do I enjoy a system less because it does not get new games? Also no.
I also still play and cling to the (S)NES, N64, GC, Wii and GB(C), GBA, DS(i). I still use PlayStation 1 and 2.

The concept: "There is something new: Forget the predecessor(s)!" is something I cannot grasp. This was never an option for me. It was always an "and" when a console found it's way to me.

For me the 3DS|Wii U have a lot of value because these are the last gaming system I will even get – while being able to emulate almost everything older. The same value as the still perfectly working DMG-001, the first gaming console I ever got.

The industry has moved on – in a way that I dislike so much that words can’t express that (and I have enough games for my life).

=====
Durability seems to be not as good as previous Nintendo consoles. The clam shell design, cables in the hinge… Although I'm much more careful than as a child with the Game Boy, my first O3DSXL started failing after years of muuuuch usage.

Still I hope with the 2|3DS systems I have, that they will serve their purpose for some decades.

All in all:

  • Complaining about the lack of new 3DS games? Nope!
  • Forgetting the 3DS or like it less? Even bigger NOPE!

"What's the obsession with 3DS?"

* Looks at the name of this website * :ninja:

Because it's a gameboy advance with two screens and 3D? :P

@KleinesSinchen I'm not saying forget the device, Play it if you enjoy it, I still play my N64, but complaining about Switch games not coming to the 3ds.

@Sonic Angel Knight
The Switch lite is a 720p gameboy :P

I think it's because since there was no "official" successor to the 3DS (Nintendo maintained for a long time that the Switch wasn't a successor, it was a side thing, "no worries, there would be a next DS", etc.etc.), the 3DS is still a "current gen" console, so people either want new games for it, or an official successor - backwards compatibility and all.

Well because of the 3D that was not really used for some reason, and it's "New" edition doesn't even have many games for it like Fire Emblem: Mystery of The Emblem (New 3DS Only) for example plus it has a bunch of original games right off the bat, and it has lots of awesome exclusive titles like, FE Awakening, Fates, and Echoes, Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow, X and Y, AS and OR, Sun and Moon, US and UM, Super Mario games, Kirby games, the list is extremely long.

if you look at 3DS it's actually quite an amazing hardware, it has so many unique exclusives and supported by NDS, GBA, GBC, SNES and even NES library. I would say it's one of the best nintendo console ever - you can play everything in your hand with official emulation (yeah I know it sucks, but still cool)

I admit that I don't play so many games on it because they are mostly like kiddie stuffs for me (bought one in 2015), but I keep revisiting it as it has a good library collection.

O
The switch doesn't play 3ds games yet now does it.
