Why I Hate Wonder Woman

1) She has no weaknesses, meaning there's practically no drama in any fights that include her. She's going to win since she's on the side of good, and a woman; unlike Superman, there's no handheld mcguffin that's going to weaken her in any way. This used to not be the case, when she was first introduced, since back then if she was tied up (preferably by a man) she would lose her powers and have to rely on her brain instead. When that weakness was removed because social standards were changing for the worse, nothing was put in to replace it. Hence, her fights are inherently boring.

2) She's a princess of the superwoman-only island of Themyscira, and her society tends to have a pretty dismal view of men, seeing them as inherently immoral and inferior to women and not worthy of the same level of respect, despite having very little contact with men as a whole. How are we supposed to connect and like someone, let alone a member of that flawed society's royalty, who originates and symbolises such a revolting culture? Not to mention how combat has a very high focus in Themyscira, instead of more acceptable activities like farming and weaving and the like.

3) She was created by William Marston, a man who viewed matriarchies as inherently superior to patriarchies (especially unusual for the 1940s), and preferred female domination over men, which directly led to Themyscira's female-only population and the initial focus of bondage. Indeed, a part of his worldview was "submission to loving authority", which supposedly only exists under female rule.
The character of Wonder Woman was, as a result, heavily flawed from the outset, and has never recovered from it.

Wonder Woman is a worthless character who just needs to die off and be forgotten. She is, in some ways, worse than Marvel's Captain Marvel, primarily her society and real-world conception.
Let's not forget that, in her most recent film, she flat-out raped a man and wanted "him" to die so Steve Trevor could remain in his body, though only she could see his face - so the man's family and friends would see nothing but him acting unlike himself and loving a woman he had never met before, and if he already had a girlfriend or wife...? Not to mention how Steve committed crimes whilst forced into hijacking his body, and the man was left nameless (thus lacking any characterisation whatsoever except for "Handsome Man" in the credits - gee, that's definitely objectification; aren't feminists supposed to be against that? Oh, right, that only applies to women, gotcha, bigoted arseholes).

Just wanted to post my thoughts on the supposed "third most important DC character", is all. For how "important" she's supposed to be, she hasn't received too much actual attention until recently; Superman and Batman have both gotten various animated shows and movies over the decades, whilst Diana (fortunately) hasn't. She's appeared in various forms of the Justice League (alongside Bruce and Clark, not on her own), had one or two really old cartoons, and then the two recent movies (of which one is unforgivably distasteful, as I talked about).

Wonder Woman, and her home of Themyscira, needs a complete reimagining, along with something to make her fights actually kind of worth having. Batman's a peak, but still normal, human, and thus can't really fight off cosmic threats like Darkseid. Superman's got his kryptonite weakness, and a vulnerability to magic. Billy Batson can be overcome if his "Shazam!" lightning gets redirected to him. Green Lantern has fear, and sometimes the colour yellow - or making him lose his willpower, or using his ability to make whatever he thinks real against him (one strategy Batman has devised includes making him think he's blind in order to actually blind him, I recall). Even Lex Luthor is still only human, and has gotten cancer from overexposure to kryptonite, along with having a normal human body inside his green power suit (if he even has that; not every Lex depiction does).

And where's the Doctor Fate attention? Yet another DC hero who got overshadowed by Diana.

Once again, your complaints are coated in an unhealthy dose of misogyny; you immediately write off Wonder Woman, and in fact all of Themyscira, yet you make excuses and try to defend all of these male characters despite every complaint you've offered against Wonder Woman applying to all of them. Wonder Woman's weaknesses may not be as crippling as, say, Batman's. But they are weaknesses, and they can equally be used against her; have Superman, for example, lock her in eternal combat until she becomes too exhausted to move on as was suggested in Batman's contingency notes. Or poison her. Or perhaps overwhelm her with foes and drive a dagger into her (though this will likely depend on your version of Wonder Woman; as with all comics, different authors and storylines make continuity a massive pain to keep track of).

But, I'll humor you; in your ideal world, what would a reimagining of Wonder Woman look like? What would fix the character for you?

She used to be weak to being tied up by men lmao

Incidentally, she is also weak to being tied up by her lasso of truth - I thought this was common knowledge but I guess not.

I think it's really funny to bring up Bugsnax when the topic of a thread is something dumb like this because it always ends up derailing the conversation. Instead of arguing about whether feminism is good or not (it's good) we can talk about Bugsnax!

No, but for real. I think you'd like Bugsnax because there are no strong women to make you feel inadequate. Just cute little bugs!
